    Best Non-American Films...any suggestions?

I usually find myself going to the movies about once a week when I'm home in the states and rent movies often. I'm looking for suggestions that aren't American made to look for. Some of my favorite foreign films are:

    Y Tu Mama Tambien....Spanish
    The Motorcycle Diaries....Spanish
    Audition...Japanese
    The Four Seasons...Vietnamese
    Jan Dara....Thai
    La Misma Luna...Spanish

One of my favorites is Maborosi, a Japonese flick. It's a bit dark but it's incredibly beautiful.

Another good one is Ugetsu Monogatari.

Spanish language stuff (from Spain):Tesis and The Devil's Backbone are pretty good for suspense. Tesis is about snuff films and TDB is all about ghosts in an orphanage during the Spanish Civil War.

There's a Japanese Samurai movie that I saw a few years ago at the cinema in Bangkok about a retired Samurai who is forced into action again, but I'll be buggered if I can find it or remember the name of it.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what the title may be, I'd be grateful.

    It's an early 90's film, not 60's.

For high quality Asian movies check out the bittorrent site Asian Movies, Music and TV Drama Torrent Downloads English Subtitles: Korean, Chinese, Japanese, HongKong, Thai, Hindi
They've got an excellent selection of Thai movies from first-run to movies made over 60 years ago, far more than I've seen anywhere else.

Really enjoyable film, only 1 hour long too. Got the kid from 'This is England' in it, and he's so perfect in his role.
