Actors that make a movie a must see?

I was just reading over the actors that ruin a movie thread and thinking about actors I really dislike. I'm wondering if anyone had actors they would like to see even if they knew nothing about the story line of the film.

    Male:
Daniel Defoe and John Malkovich are two of my favorites

    Female:
I'm having trouble thinking of females.

I like Paul Giamatti, Will Smith, Clint Eastwood and Kevin Spacey's movies usually too.

    James Stewart
    Audrey Hepburn (absolutely lovely)

    Old style: Burt Lancaster

New style: Micheal Douglas, Leo DiCaprio (sp?), Al Pacino, Daniel Craig, Sasha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt, Colm Meaney, Johnny Depp (I met him in the Viper Lounge years ago)

Michael Gambon gets a special mention because of Layer Cake.

I dont think theres a particular actor that I would watch a movie simply because he/she was in it.
I tend to watch movies blindly by the director or writer rather than actor.

Mr Feeman (usually, sometimes he's miscast), Marlon Brando, Alan Rickman, Depp, Joseph Fiennes
Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Cher, Cate Blanchette
Malkovitch is an a*hole. I saw him in a play in London once and he was not only crap, he stormed off the stage at curtain, miffed because a prop door wouldn't open -- um, it's called improvise. One of the best plays I ever saw was our uni's production of Sheridan's The Rivals. Several missed lines and gaffes by the younger actors, but the seniors swooped in to save the day and made the play even funnier than it is.

Agree with Denz and Morgan Freeman. I like Laurence Fishburne, too.

Old style: Lauren, Marilyn, Audrey, Katherine Hepburn
Bogart, James Dean (not many to choose from), Marlon Brando

Agree I like Denz but there was that movie where he got paid just as much to portrait a guy lying in a hospital bed solving crimes. It really pissed me off that he could get that from a lying down in a bed for three months but I suppose I should be congratulating him.

^ The Bone Collector? Yeah, but at least you got eye candy in the shape of Angie. Not sure of her acting or her personal morals, but she sure is gorgeous.

Sure I do. You have to look at the cast so you can find them again.

No, I just can't think of females that have had a long career of playing a variety of roles.

I actually meant Daniel Day Lewis, but I get those names mixed up all the time. Willem Dafoe is great too.

I really liked Kathy Bates in Misery and in her role in At Play in the Fields of the Lord, but I'm not that familiar with any of her other roles. Anette Benning? Can't think of any great roles she's had. If you can suggest anything I'll take a look. I'm a bit of a movie nut.

Ed Norton is also awesome as someone else suggested.

That is one of the most under-rated movies ever imho. It's a great film that almost nobody seems to have seen.*

My comment about Benning was more in answer to the "long career of playing a variety of roles" comment. Even apart from the aforementioned American Beauty she has a solid body of work and never seems to be "off" in anything she does.

*Plus it's got Daryl Hannah's tits in it as a bonus*
