Is it because they refuse to call it a day or is it because they bring back memories for you? Captain Sensible brings back happy memories for me, that doesn't mean he isn't shite. It really annoys me that the same sort of people who think Elvis is god get their knickers in a twist if you say anything bad about the Stones. They were not a bad band and still are not a bad band - same as the Scissor Sistors, same as Talking Heads, same as The Specials - they just stayed together and this for some reason gives them an almost godly status. What? Sorry, pardon? Oh, they're classic are they? classic adjective 1 the classic work on the subject definitive, authoritative; outstanding, first-rate, first-class, best, finest, excellent, superior, masterly. 2 a classic example of Norman design typical, archetypal, quintessential, vintage; model, representative, perfect, prime, textbook. antonym atypical. 3 a classic style simple, elegant, understated; traditional, timeless, ageless. noun a classic of the genre definitive example, model, epitome, paradigm, exemplar; great work, masterpiece. FUCK OFF The Stones are an over rated ok band, and you get all defensive because you were into them 25 years ago when you were dropping acid, watching Tomorrow's World in black & white and skewering Tanya Parkinson on the bonnet of your second hand VW Beetle and that's why they are untouchable. Mick Jagger is just a bloke, and so are the other three blokes - none of them have the talent of Mike Oldfield or Squeeze or that bald poof who made the bleepy noises in Erasure. Fuck the Rolling Stones, I have had 9 of their bad quality tracks in my i-tunes for almost a year and I'm deleting all but a couple, and even those are mediocre. I am not a Beatles fan but I admit they are pretty foking good and have at least to some degree earned their status, though pathetic that Oasis thought they were the next best thing. Oasis were more like the Rolling Stones than The Beatles; ironically BLUR were more like the Beatles in terms of variety and experiment. Anyway, fuck the Rolling Stones - if you don't like this post you can stick it up your arse.

I don't like Elvis, The Beatles or The Stones although I would imagine if I was alive at the time they probably would have been a godsend compared to what was around before them.

^ Or after. Don't get me started on Elvis. All three are over rated, though The Beatles are the only ones that came anywhere near close to earning their hype, but not enough to make me a fan as such. I Am The Walrus is a great track, Blackbird ain't bad nor is Free As A Bird, Hey Jude, Michelle, Dear Prudence, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and a coupla others. Out of the three, The Beatles have enough good material to fill one twelve track album, then again so does Madness but nobody fawns over Suggs and co anymore because despite having an en masse appeal they didn't have the right marketing - unlike the 'Stones' and their silly tongue logo - fokin twats.

Always preferred The Kinks over The Who. I was always a bit here and there with The Beatles, then I went through a period a few years back where I only listened to them, and it's true, they were the greatest band in the world.

The Stones just suddenly lost all credibility when MtD said they had some credibility. I don't understand the whole Stones are God thing, or the Eric Clapton is God e.t.c. The only thing truly amazing about them is that they survived their R&R lifestyle and are still going. Unlike Lennon, Hendrix, Elvis e.t.c. Having said that, don't say a bad word about Frank.

Well Rolling Stones Magazine lists 14 Stones songs in the The RS 500 Greatest Songs of All Time : Rolling Stone so they must have had something going for them. For me, Gimme Shelter. Sympathy for the Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Wild Horses, Brown Sugar are classics.
