    Winehouse in the doghouse

Winehouse in the doghouse after 'atrocious' tour debut in Birmingham

LONDON (AFP) - Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse kicked off her 17-date tour with a shambolic performance that saw fuming fans booing and marching out, reports said Thursday
"She came on stage half an hour late. She managed four songs but was slurring her words and swaying all over the place," he said.
"She fell into the guitar stand and dropped the microphone -- it was atrocious. The song dedicated to her husband was so bad it was like swinging a cat round your head."
An, from Birmingham, commented on The Times newspaper's website: "Her singing was awful, out of tune and slurred. She sang for around 50 minutes -- drinking throughout.

This is really a shame. She's a tremendously talented girl and at 24 she seems to be totally f'ed up.

I'd rather have a nice cup of tea and a friendly chat with timeshare salesman than listen to any of her crap.

The Sun said she paid £200,000 to the landlord her boyfriend battered to drop the charges.

    I'd take it.

They are still left with perverting justice though, which carries a couple of years at least.

AP bestows album kudos to Amy Winehouse

By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Music Writer Sat Dec 29, 10:02 AM ET

With the hundreds of albums released this year, finding ten that rose to the top was surprisingly difficult few were special enough to merit repeat listens, let alone remain in your brain long after the CD stops playing.

Here are the rare records with a permanent place on our playlists in 2007:

    1. "Back to Black," Amy Winehouse: The tragedy of 2007 is that Amy Winehouse is now simply known as the "Rehab" chick with the drug habit, not as the gifted singer-songwriter who created the most compelling album of the year. Winehouse's raspy, soulful voice is dazzling enough on its own; add the retro-soul licks and the alternately hilarious, heartbreaking lyrics, and it's an album that you just cannot shut off. While "Rehab" was a clever, gimmicky hit, it can't begin to reflect how amazing "Back to Black" truly is.

Amy Winehouse enters drug rehab program

By DAVID STRINGER, Associated Press Writer 39 minutes ago

LONDON - Amy Winehouse, beset by allegations of substance abuse, entered a rehabilitation facility Thursday to battle drug addiction.

The announcement came just days after the 24-year-old singer was pictured in British tabloid The Sun inhaling fumes from a small pipe. Police have launched an inquiry into the matter.

"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors," Universal Music Group said in a statement.

"Amy is the most talented and important musical artist of her generation and has made huge strides on her road to recovery," the statement said.

I agree. She is the most important musical artist of her generation.

    I hope she gets help.

    Winehouse dominates Grammys from afar

By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Music Writer 17 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Trapped half a world away by the place she promised to never "go, go, go," a vibrant, exuberant Amy Winehouse dominated the Grammys on Sunday night, winning five awards and delivering a defiant performance of her autobiographical hit "Rehab" via satellite from London.
For a while it seemed impossible that Winehouse would perform at all. She recently entered a drug rehabilitation center after months of erratic behavior and canceled performances, not to mention the anthemic "no, no, no" resistance of her hit song.

As the ceremony approached, suspense built over whether her drug troubles would cost her a work visa. When her visa application was rejected Thursday, Grammy producers arranged for her to perform remotely. On Friday, the U.S. government reversed itself and approved the visa, but it was too late for her to make the cross-continental trek.

So she took the stage at almost 4 a.m. London time before a small cabaret audience, wearing a sly smile as she performed a sultry, soulful rendition of the hit that has defined her recent fall from grace. She looked just as coy as she sang the song "You Know I'm No Good" almost reveling in the irony of her words.
As usual, Hollywood never holds it against Artists whose personal lives are spinning out of control with substance abuse.

Ashamed to admit it, but I have yet to hear 'Back to Black'. Some audiophile.

I've been reading some reviews, and it would appear this is possibly The most important album of the last decade. Released by Island records btw- same crew behind Zeppelin, Marley, Cat Stevens, Tom Waits, U2, Grace Jones- many fine musicians. Island also brought reggae music to the world when it released the film The Harder they Come featuring Jimmy Cliff.

Anyway, sorry Island but I've got BitTorrent.

Lets hope this fine talent does not cut short a brilliant career.

^You can pick it up for 100 Baht anywhere in the markets in Thailand. I love the album. Yes, it is one of the most important albums in a long time, evoking images of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, all sorts of things. A wonderful piece of work.

Hope she can keep going and produce another one.
