    Winehouse joke wins festival prize
    Friday 22nd August 2008

An Amy Winehouse joke was voted funniest at Edinburgh Festival

A dig at troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been declared the funniest joke of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Comedian Zoe Lyons took the top spot after her jibe about the star was chosen in a public vote.

Her winning one-liner is: "I can't believe Amy Winehouse self-harms. She's so irritating she must be able to find someone to do it for her."

The 33-year-old, from Brighton, makes the joke in her show, Mangled Mantra of the Messed-up Modern Mind.

She scooped the prize in the inaugural comedy award from TV channel Dave, which bills itself "the home of witty banter".

Lyons said: "I am absolutely delighted to have won the award. I know self-harming is not funny but it's just a joke, so I'm not going to beat myself up about it."

She received almost 12% of the public vote and takes home the Dave Award for the Funniest Joke of the Fringe and a cash prize.

So far she's been just a name to me, a hyped name alongside Lindsay Lohan and that other one. However, I'll YouTube her - she sounds like an exploited talent, yet another case of too much too young. Poor lass.

    The Edinburgh 'Fringe' eh?

The only fringe I have partaken in in that town was in Dundas Street.

Personally, I'd say Phil Collins takes that title, with Paul McCartney coming in 2nd.

Collins has settled with former wife Orianne Cevey for 25m, wrapping up a six-year marriage during which they had two children. He will be happy to hear that he beat Paul McCartney's record settlement with Heather Mills, which came in at a mere 24.3m

Frankly, it wasn't exactly the funniest line I've ever heard. I mean hell, you get better one liners in the pub from Marmite.

    Amy Winehouse booed off stage

Amy Winehouse was booed and jeered to tears during her first performance of 2009.

The troubled singer appeared to be intoxicated when she played at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival on Friday and after cutting her set short disgruntled fans vented their anger towards her.

Amy - who is currently staying on the Caribbean island as she attempts to overcome her problems with drink and drugs and write new material - started to sob before collapsing on stage amid the jeers.

One unhappy fan said: "Amy could barely stand up, she didn't know the words to her songs. It's a disgrace. She was so drunk she didn't know where she was. She's a lost cause."

Amy, 25, played for just 45 minutes and the final track she attempted to sing 'Valerie' was finished by her band without her.

Sources claim the main reason behind her binge drinking is the hurt she is still feeling following her split from estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is allegedly expecting a baby with another woman.

One insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Amy was drinking heavily before the concert, she was really nervous about performing after so long.

I'm working away listening to the lass at the moment

I love "You Know I'm No Good"...great lyrics from someone who knows just how trashy she is and don't give a shit.

Meet you downstairs in the bar and hurt
Your rolled up sleeves and your skull t-shirt
You say what did you do it with him today?
And sniffed me out like I was Tanqueray

Oh...maybe not....I aways thought it was "And sniffed me out like I was Take Away"

    It's been spoiled for me....5555

    Exactly.
She's a retro-novelty act. Kind of like "Stray Cats" for chavs and people who like to use words like "important" when describing pop music.
    More follow-the-leader mediocrity.
