    Justice League

    Grindingly dull superhero smash-up.

Occasionally makes a half-hearted attempt at the humour that has to some extent rescued the Marvel movies but for the most part it is just the witless worn-out superhero formula.

    4/10 for the CGI

    A Ghost Story

I like to give these experimental movies a chance but I must be getting unadventurous, or else this movie is just not that good.

I has an interesting texture at times but some of the scenes drag on forever with literally nothing happening except maybe the camera moving slowly.
Reminds me of a movie I saw recently.

    The Woman Who Left. (2016)
    3 hours 50 mins.

A Filipina is released from jail after serving 30 years for a crime she didn't commit and goes in search of her ex-boyfriend who set her up.

A Philippine film in B&W and English subtitles. Don't recall seeing any camera movement at all throughout the whole movie. No shaky camera,
no shots flitting from character to character every time they open their mouths, no tracking, no panning, no zooming in or out, no angle shots.
Seemed as though the director just set the camera on a tripod and called 'Action!', leaving the actors to play their parts while he went to make a cup of tea.
So, lots of very, very long scenes.

The Scent of Rain and Lightning

A promising start with a sharp plot hook to draw you in to what seems like it will make for a tense drama.

However, the director suffers from the fatal lack of confidence in his abilities that afflicts many inexperienced directors and drives them to take cover behind the worst cinematographic technique ever dreamt up:- the shaky camera.

The film is barely watchable for want of a $50 tripod so I gave up after 20 mins

    ?/10

Hopefully this moronic technique is on the way out.

    2nd Best Marigold Hotel 6/10

Like most sequels on the coat tails of the funny and original, passable twee romantic comedy about old middle class english expats and an Indian wedding. More laughs at beer O'Clock some nice cameo parts

Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle

Crackling good fun with Jack Black on form as a preppy teenage girl stuck in a 'fat middle aged man's body' without her phone but with a penis.

The scene where s/he tries to teach another girl how to flirt is worth the price of admission alone.

The Rock is funny too (although not in Jack Black territory) as a trembling nerdy teenage boy trapped inside... The Rock.

    7.8/10

All The Money In The World. (2017).
Review the last film you watched-all-money-world-jpg

Ridley Scott's biographical tale of the 1970's kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. This film being initially noted for Kevin Spacey's removal from the lead role, to be replaced by Christopher Plumber after the first edition was in the can.
Plummer however, is excellent as the mean-spirited, tightwad billionaire Getty. The film itself plods a bit for a hostage drama / thriller; Getty's wealth and obsession with keeping it overshadowing the main plot a little. Mark Wahlberg tolerable as his security agent. Gets going in the last third of the film, with some action and nastiness by the kidnapper's when their ransom demands are constantly rebuffed by the richest man in the world's family.
    Watchable. 7/10 for me.

    Molly's Game

I became interested in poker for a while so I had read a little bit about Molly Bloom and remember thinking the story was movie material.

Aaron Sorkin delivers with a sharp and fast moving account of the woman who organised high stakes poker games in NY and LA.

2 hours 20 long but you will never check you watch.

    8.3/10

A Taxi Driver. Korean film of 2016.

A widowed father and taxi driver takes a German reporter from Seoul to Gwangju to cover the 1980 uprising
Not sure why. Managed an hour.

It works better as a comedy for the taxi driver character. The German reporter plays the "straight man" to his antics but a little too seriously

The theme of the story? Its quite serious. Dunno what this movie was trying to be...

    One night in Istanbul

Funny film about some skint Scousers with all the trials and tribulations of following Liverpool FC to their 5th European cup win.
Involves gangsters, Hitlers cuff links and much more.

Get on it like a car bonnet

Not a big poker player, so wasn't expecting much. It turned out to be quite good. Thanks.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6133130/

apparently a true story, and quite an eye opener on the story behind the "Wonder Woman" comic strip, which was a liberal propaganda manifest

if you are a liberal and a feminist, this is a great movie to watch

...Ready Player One...a Spielbergian teen fantasy movie about a computer game and the adventures that take place inside it: incomprehensible, CGI-silly and about an hour too long...I'll be more wary taking SD's movie recommendations in future...5/10...

    Girl's Trip

Not really a bloke's movie as (you may surmise from the title!).

However it powers long with a strange kind of OTT 'animal house' energy that makes it quite engaging.

You could do worse if your woman is in the mood for a riotous chick flick.

Does not quite pack the fun-punch that The Force Awakens did.

yeah I hate those kind of movies, very realistic stories but super depressing

it takes you a few days to recover from the depth of that deep emotional well

might be a great film for an art and film school festival to show the expression of the characters emotions

but that's not entertainment, it's film art

Quite enjoyed this also. The girl playing the lead of Molly Bloom is eminently watchable. -Ably supported by her push-up bra, and Kevin Costner.

    Pacific Rim: Uprising

Took the kids to see this. I'll say this for it - they enjoyed it.

I spent pretty much the whole movie entertaining myself coming up with alternative sub-titles: Pacific Rim: The Bigger Rim; Pacific Rim: The Rimmining; Pacific Rim: The Riminator...
