It's a tame look at the atrocity that was the Khmer Rouge actions in Cambodia. I say "tame" in that it was not a Killing Fields expose of blood, though there was plenty of tragedy and blood. Seen through the eyes of an actual survivor who was a little girl at the time, she went on to write the book upon which the film is based.
Of interest to all, but especially us in Thailand as it is very close to home, and maybe even a reminisce for some, it's heart-wrenching and serves to remind us that the war mongers of the world are bastards.
