    The Foreigner

Jackie Chan busting some ninja turtle moves on the IRA does not sound like a recipe for a convincing movie but it is pretty good.

Felt a bit like Rambo:First Blood in parts!

    8/10

The original novel title was The Chinaman which I think works better than the slightly vague Foreigner

^^I watched the Foreigner last week. I really enjoyed seeing Jackie Chan back in action. He really has aged though, wow.
    Great story, 9/10

I want to see this for sure. Couldn't find a good copy on torrents though.

I watched I, Tonya. The story of Tonya Harding, the skater that was made famous for having her bf smash the knee of competitor Nancy Kerrigan in 1994. I found it quite entertaining. Stupid criminals who made stupid errors and got caught.

    8/10

    The Beyond

Review the last film you watched-beyond-jpg

"Set in 2019, The Beyond chronicles the groundbreaking mission which sent astronauts - modified with advanced robotics, through a newly discovered wormhole known as the Void. When the mission returns unexpectedly, the space agency races to discover what the astronauts encountered on their first of its kind interstellar space journey."

First encounter of the most welcome kind.

Took the lad (6 yo) to see that at a local(ish) cinema last weekend. Well worth the journey and ticket price. Great big-screen family movie.

    Lucky (2017).
Review the last film you watched-lucky-film-jpg
Basically, actor and musician Harry Dean Stanton's swansong. The film made when he was 89 yo, and he passed away before the commercial release of this movie.

Quirky, slow-moving (an escaped tortoise, a central part of the plot moves quicker than the lead) but humorous film. Stanton's character is a WWII vet with obvious health issues despite his drinking and smoking habits. Some genuinely funny and moving moments in the film. Well acted, but maybe a little slow-paced for some. I really enjoyed it though.

    8/10 for me. RIP HDS.

Funny. Well made. Lives up to the press hype a few months ago.

Welcome to an exam-cheating business run by Lynn, a straight-A student who gets the idea for her business after helping Grace and Pat. Grace is a prominent school activist who can’t get the grades she needs. Pat is a filthy-rich boy who believes money can buy anything. Lynn’s business skyrockets and the money starts to flood in as scores of students offer her cold hard cash in exchange for exam answers.
Also gonna add it in recommendations.

Excellent stuff. My only regret is watching a screener. With movies this good you should wait for the HD copies.

    8.7/10

    Thor Ragnarok

Nice to see them injecting some hmour and humanity into these superheros. Korg the nice and friendly rock monster rocks!

    7.8/10

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

I wanted to like this movie and I do admire Colin Farrell for taking on roles like this and The Lobster (and Nicole Kidman). But it simply is not involving or interesting. The end product is laboured and dreary and I just wanted it to end.

    5.4/10 (for originality not entertainment)

    Wonder 2017

This story (based on a novel) of a boy with a congenital disfigurement trying to fit in at his first school is overflowing with sentimentality but manages to sustain itself all the way and justify the torrent of tugs on the heartstrings.

The actor is the boy from Room with some prosthetics.

Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson are solid as the parents. Most of the villains are shown as humans too which makes the whole thing more involving.

    7.8/10

The Shape of Water...don't understand how the movie is up for best picture oscar: too long (2 hours) for the subject matter and once you've seen the creature there's no need to suspend disbelief: it's a romance story with obvious good guys and bad guys...Sally Hawkins is a fine actress but I doubt this is the role that brings her an oscar...seems like Guillermo del Toro is losing his edge...6/10

    The Conjuring 2

Bargain basement 'Brit' actors (it's set in London) and a ridiculous story made this unwatchable after 57mins

I ate a sandwich from 37min to 54mins, and it was really tasty

...Black Panther...silly superhero black shenanigans written, directed and produced by white folks: the superhero (Black Panther) sounds like heroic and ever patient Nelson Mandela, the antihero American Black is ghetto crude (no manners at all), a bully and possessed of a magnificent body. The mostly African cast is all sombre dignity and devotion, perpetuating a (liberal?) stereotype of Africans before the arrival of corrupting Europeans. Too long by about 45 minutes, too many set pieces of the royal council to allow Angela Bassett and Forrest Whitaker opportunities to present their versions of Hollywood African accents, too few moments of interesting plot development...the media hype has completely missed the mark on this turkey...4.5/10...

Gotta disagree there, went to see it today and rather enjoyed it for what it is. I think people are just reading too much into it.

Just shows how divided society is these days I reckon. It's not even the first 'black' superhero movie (Blade has it beat by 20 or so years) but that's all most people seem to be focusing on and judging it (one way or another).

End of the day it's about a guy that has a costume that comes out of a necklace and he beats people up. 'Roots' it ain't!

    I give it 8/10 popcorn's.

(Dunno about the producers but the director's definitely black by the way... Same dude who did 'Creed').

Creed... was an excellent movie for that matter, surprisingly so.

Micheal B. Jordan was in that too. Been following his since Friday Night Lights days.
