| Spiderman 3. Was hoping the movie would shed some light as to where Peter Parker gets his Spidey suits made, and how he could afford them. He's only a pizza delivery boy who struggles with the rent. The photos for the Daily Bugle are only a little extra pocket money, yet the costume is made from expensive ice-skate-suit style lycra with 3 dimensional urathane webbing, and he would need a load of replacements because at the end of each movie his head mask is all split and full of burn holes, still, he sees fit to keep it on regardless instead of just pulling it off to make life easier. About the suit: One suit alone is about 4,000 US dollars, so where does he get them? And does the company keep his identity secret? The 3rd movie did however reveal the police radio in his bedroom so we now know how he knows when a crime is in progress. In addition to the suit mystery, the black goo from outer space is never really explained and how the Sandman can accuire a mass of gigantic proportions with no apparent sand about to utilize for this, then return to a man sixed mass and start crying isn't explained either. Surely a person with a mollecular structure of sand would not be able to breathe, talk or run, let alone rob a bank, and if all the above were possible then surely the man in question would show a bit more surprise if it did happen to him. Still, not bad. ![]() Last edited by The Gentleman Scamp : 06-05-2007 at 04:41 AM. |

| BORAT: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. In the Phillipines, you buy a DVD at the market and the cover will have Will Smith in In Persuit Of Happyness for example and you turn to the back to find you have an additional 11 movies on the same disc which could range from a good quality Hannibal Rising to a cinema camcorder quality Mr Beans Holiday to a non existent Sleepy Hollow which has been replaced by Speed to a perfect quality Life Of Brian and The Hills Have Eyes - you get the general idea, its a lucky dip but there's always a prize. Anyway, the cover was The Astronaut Farmer starring Billy Bob Thornton and it also featured 300 and The Queen as well as Borat so I thought why not? I hadn't intended to see Borat, I hated it just knowing it had been done and had every sympathy with the understandably pissed off people of Khazakstan.* So during a night of insomnia I gave it a watch, remembering the afternoon I wasted watching Ali G - The Movie in Singapore and it being the only movie I have ever walked out on. Borat was as offensive as I had expected, and I still feel a tad of understanding for those khazakstanis (though the residents of the Romanian village used for filming claim to be bigger victims) - anyhow, it was very funny indeed and I didn't know there were only 2 actors in the film, the other parts being real people - Americans who were portrayed maybe not as they wished but as their individual attitudes shockingly and frightfully were, which I can now see was the point of the film, and it did highlight American stupidity in a way which was soberingly shocking once the laughter had stopped. I don't want any respected American TD members to think I am bashing here, I am aware that the interviews were selectivly chosen to portray the worst, and of course most Americans, (those who ARE good ambassadors to the flag) will agree with me that the film took more piss out of Uncle Sam than it did Khazakstan. Sacha Baron Cohen's sheer bravery and audacity is worth his Golden Globe, not to mention the nude, hotel room scene which I am not going to divulge to those who have yet to see it. I'm surprised to find myself saying that this is worth a watch after all and I can't rate this as a 'normal' film, it's not a normal film and should be seen on that basis alone. I expected the same immaturity as Jackass but there's more to this than toilet humour and pranks. *I worked with a couple of Khazaks at the circus in Pattaya and a member of this forum has a Khazak wife and they are nice, normal people. ![]() Last edited by The Gentleman Scamp : 07-05-2007 at 01:14 PM. |

| I saw S3 is now the highest grossing premier movie of all time. Speaks volumes! I had the very unfortunate experience of watching a movie called Let Sleeping Dogs Lie last night. I'm not too well at the moment, I think all this rain has given me a mild cold, but whatever you do - DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. Utter, utter, utter crap. |

| Today I endured some twenty minutes of SAW III - yet another gory horror thriller set in some tawdry underground dungeon in some arseholes house where women are constantly tortured, seen it all before and I'm getting fed up with horror movies. 1/10 That's living with an Asian for ya. |

| Tounguin for a beer. | Robots. Featuring the voices of Robin Williams (in top form) and Ewan Mac Gregor Robots was a state of the art animated film. One of the good ones where the kids are enthralled and there is enough adult subtleties to keep us laughing as well. Had all the ingredients of a great movie - Triumph of good over evil, underdogs winning, love, comedy and quirky characters. The good thing about these types of movies is that they are not restricted by real actors in any way, Their imaginations can run wild. Great animation and just picking up what everyday bits the robots were made of was a treat. 10/10

| Gummo (1997) It was a strange movie showing the lifestyles of VERY rural folk (white trash) living in Ohio, USA. If you're a cat lover I'd say stay far away from this movie! A lot of horrible images of cats being killed, or mutilated after being killed! I would say it kept my attention, because of the editing, cinematography & strange narrative style. So I would give it 2.75/4 stars. Kudos to the director for daring to be so ugly.

Somehow didn't seem half as controversial as it probably would have 10 years ago. | |

| I watched two films about magic recently, The Illusionist and The Prestige. I thought both were pretty good, although i think I'd have to say I prefer The Illusionist if only for th Philip Glass soundtrack and a slightly more uplifting ending. Both films have twists at the end so i won't tell you what happens. All i can say is, the Illusionists twist is slightly better. Stars out of 5 The Prestige - 3.5 stars The Illusionist - 4 stars I hope no one has reviewed them before because I couldn't be arsed to read the whole thread. |

| I watched Laurel Canyon last week. It's about the son of a fading musician who moves back home with his girlfriend to be near the hospital where he has just got a new job. His GF is miss 'prim & proper', but soon manages to get sucked in by her BF's mother and the rock'n'roll lifestyle, thus neglecting her studies. All in all, a crock of shite, but you do get to see Kate Beckensdale's bum, so it has its good points. 4 out of 10.

| ^I saw The Illusionist on a plane....he was sitting in row D....No, but seriously, a very very good film. I wish there more films like it, made for entertainment and nothing more and cracking entertainment it was too. |
