    Home Theatre: Wireless Speakers

Does anybody know where you can purchase one of those wireless speaker kits for a home theatre system (rear speakers only)?

I've managed to track down one on the Interweb but would prefer to purchase locally if at all possible so I have someone in the flesh to throw it at if/when it goes wrong.

Store where I purchased the home theatre from is no help whatsoever, they keep insisting that I need to upgrade (i.e. buy) the next system up despite the fact that the packaging, manual and other materials state my current system (Sony DAV-DZ55K by the way) is 'wireless speaker ready' - something I confirmed also on the Interweb.

The ones I've looked at? No, not particularly expensive (US$100+p&p etc) and according to the reviews there's no degradation in sound quality. These are the ones I'm referring to here: Rocketfish - Rocketfish Wireless Rear Speaker Kit

    [Edit]

Sorry, are you referring to a home theatre system itself? In which case it's a bit of a 'pay-for-what-you-get' scenario. There are reasonably priced systems - you're moving to NZ aren't you? Been a long time so can't remember prices there but guesstimate NZ$4-500.

    Sound is definately better!

    Nonsense!

The fact that the carrier is infra-red means that the bandwidth is already limited. It doesn't matter on the centre and rear speakers, but would on the front pair.

Then again, everything digital has a limited bandwidth, just some formats more than others.

It's WIFI not infra red. No difference to streaming an mp3 across a WIFI network really.

And it's only for the rear speakers - front, centre and sub-woofer are connected normally.

After all the time/effort we went to with the renovations I'm really quite loathe to ruin it by running cables everywhere.

Thanks Ant - I meant the speakers not the entire stereo.

$100 each seems ok. I will check them out in a few weeks once I have found a house to live in.

How do you power them? Batteries or a power cable?

Well I paid an extra $250 (7,000 baht) for the wifi rear speakers about 3 weeks ago.

I still havent got around to setting them up properly as we have to move house again (tomorrow).

Will get back to you with a further upday once settled.

Oh hey, forgot about this thread. Good to see you've got some sorted MeMock.

Priorities change and all that, I've decided not to go with any now. Or more to the point haven't been arsed doing it.
