I want to built last century gaming rig

Basically, Pentium II with Nvidia 16mb graphics card and a decent CRT monitor.

I want to play Windows 95/98 games such as Command and Conquer.

Tried every setup possible, tricks, patches including vmware and virtualbox - doesn't work.

Is it possible to get parts from computer shops in Thailand or I will have to rely on eBay to do this project?

Damned if I can remember the site, but Command and Conquer is actually available for 'free' play now.

I stumbled across it whilst looking at a C64 emulator - now that's old skool!

I see lots of old stock used computer shops in the IT Malls such as Zeer Rangsit. Usually up along the upper level floors. Dusty and stocked full of old monitors and old rigs fir sale for a few K baht. Just hope the shopkeeper isn't cranky when you wake him up.

most of those old games are DOS based so you should be able to run them in DOSbox.

Sadly though unless you want to trawl through every little PC shop you will be out of luck buying hardware and Ebay will be the only way.

Why don't you just do it in a VM?

Wait a minute... this works. I just downloaded a bunch of stuff and it even scales nicely to widescreen.

    Green owed.

Surely an emulator would be much simpler than actually building a physical rig?

Well the PS1 was only officially discontinued in 2005 and over its lifetime had sales in excess of 100 million units.

So no, it's not worth anything.

I used to play C&C with friends at lan parties back in the day. I used to use Tanya to sneak in the enemies back door and blow up their base. The reaction of friends was priceless.

I occasionally come over all nostalgic for retro games and even flirt with the idea of buying a C64, Amiga 500 or similar but then I realise that most of the games haven't aged well and if I brought anything it would probably end up unused in a cupboard (which is probably exactly what the previous owner(s) did).

^ That is exactly why I do not look back. I have a pretty high powered gaming rig and play a fair bit. Right now I am playing a lot of Player unknown battle grounds. It is currently the darling on twitch right now and lots of pro level players are streaming it. Kinda crazy to suddenly get killed and realize it is Fatal1ty who just offed you.

So ya old stuff if cool to talk about but not as fun to play for more than a few minutes.

I was a huge Amiga user in the late 80's and was mostly impressed by the 4 channel Stereo sound. I used the program called sound tracker to compose music. Anyone could do it, you just needed a bunch of samples on floppy disk which you would load into a sound tracker sequencer and everything would be done via regular keyboard. Good times. My favorite game from that time was Turrican 2. I don't think the games have aged that bad it's just that playing them on the emulator is not the same experience as using the original Amiga monitor and original 80's indestructible joystick.

I got Atari 1040ST and 65XE in the basement back in Canada. Powered up Atari a year ago when I went for a visit and still works like a charm. These things are over 30 years old and everything functions properly. I believe this was 100% made in America stuff and it's a real shame both companies went bankrupt and replaced with the garbage like Apple. Amiga used to own the media/graphics market in the 80's and early 90's.

That's true, just the tactile experience adds something.

I remember saving pocket money and going in with a mate to buy Project Stealth Fighter on the C64 which came with a keyboard overlay for all the controls. Just no way to replicate that on an emulator.
