40 yrs ago tomorrow, this debut song was released.

What can you say. A classic? An anthem? The theme of a generational subculture?

Number 56 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Pump it up, play it loud, sing along, and not give a fuck for a few great minutes.

Out of interest, this is the Top 50 of that list.

Bob Dylan, 'Like a Rolling Stone' | 500 Greatest Songs of All Time | Rolling Stone

Some classics in there! (oddly enough )

What I thought would be number one doesn't seem to have made the top 50, unless I missed it.

This 45 came out earlier than the Sex Pistols debut in the UK.

The Damned's "New Rose". Two minutes of stripped-down, pure energy.

    Burn the Punks

Sex Pistols memorabilia to be burned as part of protest against Punk.London celebrations

The son of Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren says he will set fire to millions of dollars of punk memorabilia tomorrow, as a protest against the musical scene's appropriation by the mainstream.

    Key points:
    • Joe Corre says punk is dead
    • Burn will protest events organised in Britain to mark 40 years of punk
    • Sex Pistols lead singer questions point of protest, suggests memorabilia could be sold and funds donated to charity

Joe Corre said he would burn Sex Pistols records, clothing and other ephemera on the 40th anniversary of the release of the band's debut single Anarchy in the UK.

"I've been wondering for a long time what to do with it all and I think this is the right opportunity to say: 'You know what, punk is dead'," he said.
"Stop conning a younger generation that it somehow has any currency to deal with the issues that they face.
"It is not. It's dead and it's time to think about something else."
