    FEDS seize Kickass Torrents domains

The U.S. Government has arrested the alleged owner of KickassTorrents, the world's largest torrent site. The 30-year-old Ukrainian was arrested in Poland today and is charged with criminal copyright infringement and money laundering. In addition, a federal court in Chicago has ordered the seizure of several KAT domain names.

At the time of writing the main domain name Kat.cr has trouble loading, but various proxies still appear to work. KATís status page doesnít list any issues, but we assume that this will be updated shortly.
TorrentFreak has reached out to the KAT team for a comment on the news and what it means for the siteís future, but we have yet to hear back.

I feel for the guy. The feds will send him up the river for a long time. This is why I only use private trackers and never public ones.

No wonder Kickass wouldn't load this morning.

How fortunate we are that the US has no pressing law enforcement problems and can devote the resources to arresting a Ukrainian, in Poland, for posting free TV shows.

No wonder the world hates the USG.

I don't downloads as much as I did a few years back, with so much free on-line Movie/Series/TV/Sport streaming these days there isn't much need. Also I've heard of people getting taken to court for downloading movies but I've never heard of anyone being taken to court for live streaming

Here's just a few of the sites I use ( loads on-line if you look )

Watch Free Movies Online - Free Streaming Movies | fmovies

    Watch Movies Online ? Movieflix.to

    Live Football Streaming- CricBox.TV

    UK Channels - ShadowNet

Get yourself an Andriod box to plug in the TV and the amount of APP's and Kodi/SPMC add-ons there are , there's not much you can watch by live streaming.
I must admit though you do lose out on picture quality in some cases but you're normally watching on-line the same torrent but just streaming it. I know on most Kat links they give you an option to watch the same torrent on Solar Movies ( there is not need to sign up,all streamed torrents are available without signing up )!

SolarMovie - Watch Movies Online Free in HD at SolarMovie

I love to hear you peasants wallow with your lowly public trackers. Every time you download from those places it is a time bomb loaded with malware, spyware, keyloggers and just about every nasty you can find. Not to mention that the content is inferior and of low quality.

It is like buying drugs off the street instead of having a nice high end dealer.

These type of threads remind me of that Emporer Tud guy who flat-out refused to seed anything that he downloaded and justified it by saying that everyone was stealing it anyway.

but it will still affect you because the little private sites 'borrow' most of their content from the big public ones

Just read an article that it was Apple that provided much of the information that led to the arrest. Five domain sites seized. Wonder how long it will take them to get back up? As I recall, when the PirateBay boss was arrested, and multiple domains seized, they were back up fairly quickly....

Do they actually think that guys will in future cough up money to view the stuff they previously downloaded via torrent?

You have no clue what you are talking about. Most of the content on private trackers is only available there. You can not get it on public trackers. Content is uploaded to private trackers first then it goes out to the public trackers if at all.

No I am not on private trackers because of getting busted. I use a VPN and seedboxes so I can download from anywhere safely. I use private trackers because they have more and higher quality content then public trackers and they are far better seeded. They are also safer because they can track the uploaders as the groups are in most cases well known so that means less virus and malware risk.

The Colossal Screwups That Got the Alleged Kickass Torrents Owner Busted

Hereís a tip: If you happen to find yourself at the helm of a gigantic illegal torrenting operation, donít use an Apple email, and for the love of all that is holy do not use Facebook.

Unfortunately for 30-year-old Artem Vaulin, he made this very mistake while allegedly operating Kickass Torrents, a popular source for links to torrent files, which can be used to illegally download music, movies, and TV shows. Apple and Facebook have no qualms turning over information like IP addresses and purchase history when presented with a warrant, and the information these companies turned over to US investigators helped catch Vaulin.

This was a truly imprudent move by Vaulin, and one he could have easily avoided. By utilizing one of the many darknet services that allow you to have what is essentially a disposable email, Vaulin could have avoided being behind bars.
As we learn from the criminal complaint against Vaulin, authorities were able to catch him just by chasing his IP address. Letís walk through Vaulinís many apparent fuck ups. First, for whatever reason, this guy was operating a Kickass Torrents Facebook fan page. Probably for promotional purposes, sure, but a bonehead move nonetheless. This is almost incomprehensibly misguided if you are operating an illegal enterprise. By doing this, Vaulin was essentially handing over all of his Facebook-related data to US investigators. When the US government came to Facebook with a warrant for the Kickass Torrents fan page, Facebook handed over the log data (as it should) and revealed that Vaulin was using an @me.com email address to sign into Facebook. Who owns me.com? Apple.

Next, Authorities went to Apple and said, essentially, turn over all the data you have on tirm@me.com, Vaulinís email account. This is where Vaulin continued his string of devastating screw ups.

Vaulin used his @me.com email address to make an iTunes purchase. Well, luckily for US investigators, every time you make an iTunes purchase, your IP address is recorded. The authorities then used these IP addressed they gathered to determine Vaulinís online bitcoin account.

Authorities were also able to determine that Vaulinís @me.com email account was receiving alerts relating to administration tasks on the Kickass Torrents. Another sloppy decision in a string of lazy and careless decisions that ultimately led to his downfall. Itís almost like when Silk Road founder and operator Ross Ulbricht used his real name to ask questions about Tor hidden services on Stack Overflow. A stupid mistake that helped authorities put him in prison for life.

All of these careless mistakes eventually helped US investigators catch Vaulin. Itís funny how the people who run massive illegal online operations seem to care very little about operational security.

ďVaulin is charged with running todayís most visited illegal file-sharing website, responsible for unlawfully distributing well over $1 billion of copyrighted materials,Ē Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell said in a statement. ďIn an effort to evade law enforcement, Vaulin allegedly relied on servers located in countries around the world and moved his domains due to repeated seizures and civil lawsuits. His arrest in Poland, however, demonstrates again that cybercriminals can run, but they cannot hide from justice.Ē
