Oh dear, Loomy finds another old thread.

I remember Babylon 5. It ran for many series, some of which I have on VHS. True there were the odd lame episodes but there were a greater number of crackers. I remember watching every one. My favorite character was the Vorlon Ambasador, who only revealed his true identity once. Most of the time he spent in some sort of body armour. I liked the Vorlon ship, itself a living thing, and the Minbari Ambasador D'len. She was hot, even under all that makeup. I liked the fact that the Shadows had some pretty deadly fire power, in their ships, and fighting them was not easy. The battle scene in series five goes on for about three episodes.

To compare Babylon 5 to the remake of Battlestar Galactica is not a fair move. The production and available effects are many years apart. I remember Lorne Green as Adama in the original series with the wobbly sets and the odd bad edit. That was half the fun. The voice of Patrick MacNee as the Cylon Commander brought a touch of humour. IMO, the remake is just another Sci-Fi movie with the same title.

Still waiting for Babylon 5 to come out on DVD. If anyone has seen it, would they please let me know.

I have downloaded them all and have it on dvd if you want a copy.

it's even better third time round.

pm me if you want a copy.

i have given BG every chance (watched it all) and it doesn't compare in any way shape or form to the mastery of storytelling and depth of character in B5.

Someone mentioned Stargate Atlantis ..rubbish compared to babylon.
I seem to remember battle star galactica so will look out for that.

Babylon 5 can only appeals to a basement boy virgin or a gay geek like CMN,

b series with very low tech special effects,

it's like watching one of those bad Japanese TV series based on kids cartoons, but only worse because the actors can't act and they don't do it on purpose,

BSG on the other hand is brillant,

    Gladly.

the pilot was so bad that i would never have watched the entire thing if I'd seen it before I joined the series.
hadn't seen it till recently and thankfully a few of the actors were replaced.

when i first watched B5 i started on season 2 when sheridan takes the station.

Sheridan really is the essence of B5 and as far as I'm concerned the 1st season serves only as a backdrop to the rest of the show.

    fukk me butterfly.
do you read any of the threads here?

i have watched all of BG and while it is very good indeed and I enjoyed it, it'swell directed and has a huge budget and is made with lots of high tec stuff it has nowhere near the depth of B5 in any department whatsoever.

Tried it!? Only reason I'm on this B5 stuff is because there's no more BSG episodes yet.

To borrow and extend your analogy BSG is the sweet, sweet hit of heroin, B5 is the methadone given to ease the vomiting from the withdrawl symptoms.

Please enlight us about the "depth" of the show ? is it as deep as an "anal" joke between two teenagers ?

yeah, it's a funny show for sure

It's not good, it's brillant. Like Ant said, going to B5 after BSG, is like eating shit after caviar on toast. Why bother.

    have you watched it butterfly.

I mean all 120 odd episodes and followed the story?

    of course not.

you watched bits of episodes here and there, much the way i watched start trek, because it was episodic.
    B5 wasn't.

    as i have said before.
if Ant can get to the end of season 3 and tell me it isn't better than BG with a straight face, then i'll believe him.

I admit that after watching about 3 sporadic episodes of Season 2, I lost interests and found the whole excercise pointless. If you don't get hooked after the first 2 episodes and it takes a full season to get it, then it's a bit of a drag for your imagination.

The great thing about BGS is you can watch it again and not be bored through it even if you know what's coming next,

I doubt the same could be said of B5 when every action is predictible and the acting awful
