I'm being done for copyright infringement

This is part of a huge crackdown on copyright infringement.

I think the days of freely downloading illegal torrents is over. I recieved thid in the post yesterday from solicitors representing the copyright owners of a film ''The Company you keep'' which I downloaded in April 2013.

The solicitors are based in Las Vegas and are going through their London office to deal with this.

I've only shown the first page of 2, as this contains most of the info I wanna here.

They obtained a high court writ against my internet providers, so that they would have to disclose my details. If it's the high court this means that I can't just ignore it and baliffs could enter my flat to remove goods. I've seen those tv shows about high court baliffs.

Now I can opt to (hopefully) settle out of court and pay £600 costs to the solicitors, or go to court and risk £17,000 fine or 5yrs in jail. I read that a guy in Belgium was fined £90 by a court for downloading two Rhianna mp3s.

I am worried about going to court and risking this, OR the judge may just let me off as it's my first ever offence and it's just one film.

The worrying thing is that they went through my PC after getting my IP address, and the other worrying thing is that they are even able to do this, all the way from the USA.

Should I now remove all my personal stuff from my laptop ie. bank passwords etc, because if I go to court there's a chance that they will get a court order to seize my laptop and look for other films I downloaded.

Anyone got any info on this? Should I be scared? Because I certainly am.

I've sent them a letter admitting all liability (there's no way I can deny it) and they said the chances are I'd just settle with them, £600, which I'll pay in very small installments

I'm just panicking but I just thought I'd let you know to be careful

Pat, I am calling bs on this post.

1 - A quick search online would clarify the risk of personal court action against you is minimal.

2 - more importantly, where would you get £600?

Be really careful to whom you pay any money to.....

Most ISPs only keep records of whom is using what IP addy and what that address accessed for only 90 days. I would check how long your ISP keeps such details (they're legally bound to disclose this information) and see if the plaintiff could have actually accessed the information.

If not, fuck them, it's probably a fishing trip....there are people scamming out there doing this very thing.

^ F&cking hell Pat - did you do *any* research on this before sending off a letter?

Go do your effing research, and read about before splitting with your dole money:

    https://torrentfreak.com/received-a-...r-free-150320/

    https://acsbore.wordpress.com/2015/0...do-about-them/

Sky Broadband customers receive legal letter asking for payment over alleged piracy of an obscure Robert Redford film | Home News | News | The Independent

...and that is just 5 minutes searching.

As a rule, I would never, never, never respond to a legal letter off my own back. At the very lest get down to the CAB.

They got a high court writ against your internet provider not against you so don't panic yet. The thing to remember about these heathen cnut bailiffs is that they have very little power unlless you give into them.
Baliffs almost never have a warrant to force entry It's almost always a walk in warrant, if you block their entry with a door they can't break it down they must use peaceful methods to gain entry, they can't crawl through your windows either it must be through regular methods, a door. indeed most of what baliffs call warrants arent even valid as they come with no court seal or wet ink signature from a judge or magistrate, that's why they are so reluctant to show you a warrant, because it a fraud, they rely on gaining entry by intimidation via threats of increased fines and charges and threats of arrest, something that can't be done in a civil case, although the police will assistance assist them if you breach the peace so no bad language or raised voices.

Don't panic yet mate just don't talk to the cnuts, you are under no legal obligation to talk to them answer any questions or sign anything they tell you to, just keep your door locked because they can lawfully enter an unlocked door.
Baliffs are lowlife thugs and should be treated as such.

I just went to my local solicitors and I've just had the idea that it may well be a scam, but that info about the torrent I downloaded and when is 100% correct.

    Cheers for the advice

It's not a scam, it's a trick. You did something illegal, but you cannot get caught for it unless you play ball - which you seemingly did. You are fuked now, if you admitted liability...

If baliffs do eventually appear, there's nothing of any value, only my 46" tv which cost £229
They're not allowed to remove fridges, freezers, cookers etc
