    Mirroring mobile devices on TVs

Yesterday I saw a guy in a shop mirror his android mobile phone screen on a TV. It was a 'smart' TV. It was easy for him, I think he just went into settings somewhere and clicked something but I couldn't see exactly where and I can't find anything similar on my android devices.

So I have a few questions for our more knowledgeable members.

Is an app needed to mirror an android device to a TV?
Does the device have to be 'rooted' first?
Is it possible to mirror an android device on a TV that isn't a 'smart' TV?

Thanks in advance for your comments and help.

allshare cast from samsung phone to samsung smart television

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracast for other devices

non smart televisions - if your device supports https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile...efinition_Link , you can buy a cable 300baht to connect frm the microUSB to HDMI - you will also probably require a 5v USB power supply

youtube will have howto's for all of the above

Or buy a chromecast or Miracast dongle.

Then you don't need any cables.

Powered from the TV's USB if it has one sufficiently powered, or from the supplied mains adapter.

Just buy a Sony Xperia and a Sony Bravia TV - perrrrrrrrrfect ('Arry has one, but doesn't like to admit it on the board...).

Very easy top screen menu function:

    And cost.

Plus I can't say I'm impressed with Minix anyway.

    Prefer the GBox Q myself.

My Minix has been quite a good machine - I got it bundled with the air mouse which make a good remote control - though the version with the minikeyboard on the reverse side would have been helpful - I have yet to try it with a logitech touchpad/keyboard combo

    So if I understand?

    TV has a USB

If I buy a Miracast dongle and plug it into TV I can stream stuff from my PC in the office to TV in living room one floor below, without wires.?

yes - but if the television has HDMI better to get a HDMI dongle or box etc

I am assuming that you have a wifi network in the house
