Upgrading to a Gamer PC. Video cards etc.

So I want to spend Songkran killing people and blowing shit up in HD. Let's say the entire Call of Duty range, and the latest games like that.

What video card and motherboard is needed, or best to buy?

I just bought a copy of Sniper Elite V2 and while it loaded and plays no problem, it is jumpy/jerky, with mouse lag etc. So is, in essence, unplayable with any type of enjoyment.

Would like to go buy what I need tomorrow or next weekend in Zeer Rangsit or through invadeit.com

Can I please get a simple recommendation for a video card that will play all the latest games smoothly.

    And a motherboard.

And anything else (software. Gaming mouse/keyboard etc info isn't needed immediately thanks). For example, I have 4GB RAM, would this typically need to be upgraded to 8GB RAM? I think it can be doubled to 8gb.

Also, my processor is an Intel Pentium CPU G620 @2.60 GHz.

Does this need to be upgraded?

So basically, if you don't mind:

    What video card to buy?
    What motherboard to buy?
Does the 4GB of RAM need to be upgraded to 8GB?
What processor to buy if 2.60GHz isn't enough?

    Thank you kindly.

(also, does getting a new motherboard mean loading Windows again from scratch with everything on it now being wiped unless I back it all up on an Ext. HDD?)

    For example.

    Would these cut it?

    Motherboard: ASROCK H97M SOCKET LGA1150 / H97 / 4 X DDR3 / 6 X SATA 6GBS / MATX

    2,800 baht.

    Video Card: GIGABYTE RADEON R7 250X 2GB DDR5 (GV-R725XOC-2GI)

    4,000 baht.

    4GB RAM upgrade.

    1,400 baht.

CPU Upgrade: INTEL PENTIUM PROCESSOR G3240 (3M CACHE, 3.10 GHZ) (BX80646G3240) 3.10 GHz

    2,000 baht

Or better just to buy a whole new PC?

CPU Intel Core i3-4160 (3.60 GHz 3M Cache)
    Main Memory 4 GB.
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 705 1GB DDR3

    HP 120-043l 13,000 baht.

    thanks for any advice.

Got to help, 4 is limp wristed and gay .
I added some more to my laptop to run my graphics programs better.
I don't really understand the speeds etc of it though ,
would an expensive 6GB run faster than, say a normal price 12 GB...

buy a r7 pcie vid card , a 250 gig samsung 850 evo SSD and another 4 gig of ram

take your box to zeer -

install win on the SSD and install your games there and use the current HD as the storage drive for your chicken porn

if you then find that you have not got the power you want , then look to upgrade the cpu and mobo

you mobo may hold you back if it is only sata 2

    Cheers.

So that would be these, presumably.

R7 Video Card. 2,100 baht. Is it 'pcie' or doe it just 'support' it though? "Support PCI Express 3.0 x8 bus interface"

    250GB samsung 850 evo SSD 5,400 baht.

4GB of RAM for a total of 8GB. 1,250 baht.

For a total of 8,750b, say 10k at Zeer with work and copy of Win 7.

    Quite affordable.

    Thanks.

take your box to zeer -

So if I understand, the new Win 7 would be running off the new SSD and the C Drive that runs it now would just be a chicken porn storage drive, much like the current D drive.

Just so I get the hang of what's happening, what would be the difference between getting the SSD and not getting it and the OS runs off the C Drive I have now?

    Thanks very much.

maybe spend the extra and go the r7 260x

have a read on the toms hardware reviews for best bang for the buck card in the 100-200$ range

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ew,3107-8.html

and RAM will need to be the correct for your mobo

I reckon- and I reckon cheaper too. A fairly basic gaming CPU configuration will give you an i5 processor, 4-8GB RAM, a capacitous HDD (probably two) and an entry level graphics card at a fairly cheap price. I doubt Luigi could match that price by upgrading components, and will still be left with the issue of what else is old.

    An option too.

I wouldn't mind having one just for gaming, and keeping the current one for chicken porn.

Though at the moment, getting the R7 260x video card, 250 gig samsung 850 evo SSD, and upgrade to 8GB RAM is around 11k baht.

Can you find a stock stack with those (or similar) components for the same price, or around 15k? I'd be interested in seeing it if you can. Thanks.

Okay, it's just a lot bleedin' easier to buy a whole new computer just for gaming, isn't it.

I'd be happy to drop 20k on one, which I'm sure isn't a lot when it comes to such things.

So I went to Zeer. All the mom n pop computer shops had much better deals than the named computer companies (obviously enough).

Could somebody please be so kind as to choose one of these please.

I would get an extra 4GB of RAM installed for 1,200b.

    Used, hence the price:

This one seems cheap, with 2GB video card it would be 9,400b and not 6,990.

If anyone can pick one, it would be great, thanks.

Being uneducated in such things I would go for the 3rd last pic.

    3.7GHz
    4GB
    500GB Sata III
    ATI Rodeon HD5000 2GB.

    9,790b.

Or the second last one with an upgraded video card:

    3.7GHz
    4GB Sata III
Upgraded to a 2GB Video Card.

    9,400b.

11k with an extra 4GB for a total of 8 and copy of Win 7. Okay or shithouse?

I bought Asrock (red) motherboard ( capable of over clocking)
    ASRock > Motherboard Series

4x vengeance 8g ram( with the motherboard they all work together rather that just 2 @ a time)
Buy Corsair Vengeance 8GB Memory Module PC3-12800 DDR3 DIMM at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for RAM.

    Intel i7 processor
    5th Generation Intel® Core? i7 Processors

I can't remember the name of the graphics card but it was a cheap (ish) one at around 300 quid

    Powerfull

But I get bored of games quick so I gave it to my mum to surf the net (quickly)

What monitor are you trying to drive?

Here is a link to some Gaming computers..these people build a lot.
Its only to give you an idea, with what will work, with components.
If you upgrade memory( ram) from 4gb, you will have to use Windows 64 bit, 32 bit does not recognize the extra memory.
System Packages - MSY VIC Online
Also at Pantip Plaza , they build these types of desktops.

Louie, if you're still looking for a TV, go to Fashion Island, Power Buy in the basement next to Tops.

They're apparently moving out so are selling everything at dirt cheap prices. I picked up a 48" Samsung series 6340 TV in the very, very low 20's.

Oh I'm absolutely sure that they are.

I'm really just looking to piss away a week at Songkran and try out the games the kids play nowadays.

    I'm leaning towards this one:

    Or this.

If they can handle games like Call Of Thingy and Battlefield Big C without lagging or jerking or whatever I'm sure I'll be happy enough.... if they can do that of course.
