    The Interview

The Interview is available for viewing after being released by Sony following their initial withdrawal.

Very funny lad's humour movie about a pair from a US TV show who are invited to North Korea to interview Kim Jong Un and then recruited by the CIA to assasinate him.

Politically significant due to all the shenanigans around the Sony hacking. The movie is really quite silly with lots of boob, ass and gay jokes but somehow laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

I read that the NK regime is quite fearful of being lampooned and undermined as a serious threat through huumour which makes it all the funnier! - enjoy

Tha Shaanig download on Kickass is quite good quality 1080p

Err, no, it's made them nothing.
A 200 small arthouse cinema release instead of a mega cineplex release.
They will lose millions on it.

Oh, yes....I would expect this film to probably make more of a profit online than would be in a normal theatre box-office - it's become cult-like curious overnight.

They didn't waste any time making it available online for a price.

$15M in paid downloads from Sony so far.

Don't know if that is enough to turn a profit these days but only been out a few days.

I got a copy the other day downtown Vientiane from my regular pirate shop, bargain price of 10 000 kip or about $1.20 always decent copies there, none of that Sony cam from the back of the cinema with peoples heads getting in the way when they go out for a piss or popcorn, haven't watched it yet but thanks for the heads up looper, looks like Sony won't be making fuk all of BLD eh? Gotta love living in Asia, cheap DVDs, cheap beer, etc etc, Don't like them fake viagras much though

It is only $6 to download legally (rental so I think it is time-bombed or something). At those prices Sony seems to be meeting the market to beat the pirates.

I only learned this after downloading it from Kickass

Sony claimed cost $1 mil to produce. Sounds like a nice $5 mil profit to me.

I downloaded it from Kickass. Good watchable copy.
Nearly turned it in after 10 minutes but the humour kind of grows on you after that.
A bit like watching Carry On movies.

I don't think that;s right. Seth Rogan wouldn't get out of bed for a million.

    or ten.

Along with the loss due to torrent release of the 5 films included in the hack, this has cost Sony a shitload.

    ^^from that link

Right now, estimates for those costs are hovering around $70 or $80 million, or about twice as much as Sony spent producing The Interview:
so sounds like Sony spent $35-$40M on production of The Interview.

If you can't somehow monetize this huge hype from an otherwise normal cheesy comedy film, something is wrong. Sony probably hyped the whole thing up themselves.

    Oh dear:

North Korea protests over ‘fu**ing rubbish film’

The North Korean government has made fresh protests over the decision to finally release the controversial film, ‘The Interview’, which it describes as ‘bloody awful’. In a fresh statement commenting on Sony’s reversal of their decision to pull the film, they commented that it ‘lacked comic flair’ and ‘failed to build on the excellent tradition of US greats such as Steve Martin and John Belushi’...

...Sony have reacted by defending their right to make terrible films under ‘artistic expression’, saying ‘if North Korea had their way, we’d never make a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sequel ever again. We’d have nothing left’. Meanwhile, Barrack Obama has weighed in with a more considered defence, claiming that there were ‘allegorical undertones’ to the film and saying that there were ‘huge layers of symbolism in Kim’s portrayal’, before conceding that James Franco was ‘a bit shit’.

The humour is pretty dumbed down and laddish but I think that is part of the appeal precisely because it is satirising a petulant dictator who takes himself so seriously and issues foot-stamping threats involving nuclear weapons in response to the slightest perceived provocation in real life.

If they had cast Ashton Kutcher, Ben Stiller. Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler in it, I would not have downloaded it.
