mobile phone in water - is it FckED?

Went to a fun park in a place called Dufan in Ancol, north jakarta today. Roller coaster rides, ferris wheel etc, all good fun. towards the end of the day we decided to go on the 'bumber boats' a bit naff but they were ok. As I was getting out of the boat my mobile phone slipped out of my pocket into the water ! Doh!

2 metres deep! Doh! - anyway one of the attendants apologised (I'm not sure why, it wasnt his fault) another one stripped off and went swimming in this murky brown water, he found the phone, but surprise surprise it doesnt work, i took it to the bathroom and dried it under the hand dryer - still no luck!

It was only 3 months old, guess i need a new one, but in the meantime i feel quite naked without a phone! fortunately the SIM card works, but no phone numbers on it either!

Have you taken the casing off? Try drying the parts thoroughly in the sun for an afternoon, if it still don't work, poke around the inerts with a srewdriver - still no luck, buy a new battery, it prolly shortciruited in the water.

Murky brown water is not good for mobile phones, the first thing you should have done was rinsing it with clean water.
Then open it up as much as possible and dry it.

Simcards usually don't break down so I guess it was the will of a higher force that you should lose old numbers and be forced to get a new number

^ no no no - sim card works fine - but all other ppl numbers saved on phone not sim card - so now i cannot sms ring ppl till they do me first - and in many cases i got no idea who it is ... and thus cannot screen certain calls!

This is interesting, you have a hand dryer instead of a towel?

I remember Bluecat's place had a really nice downstairs bathroom with a urinal in it for that public convenience feel.

Do any other members have bathrooms with a public toilet vibe, perhaps a motion sensitive flush or condom machine?

I always fancied a bathroom with a cobblestone floor.

Gotta pisser in my downstairs bathroom. We hosed the whoel palce down when moving in. Fuckin ol' lady's shit at house plants so we got a plastic plant in it. Usually keeps the drunk fuckers from pissin in it.

The phone is fucked it won't work, and there is a little sticker inside it that changes colour after getting wet so if you send it back saying it stopped working they can tell you got it wet. I have lost a couple of phones to the water Gods

Never lost a phone, had one stolen, broken or soaked. I'm on my third Nokia now and that's since 1999 which isn't bad going.

Not just applicable to phones, but to anything in your shirt top pocket: remove said item before vomiting into a lavatory.

have dropped the mobile in the shitter once, slipped off belt holder, not easy to pick out, rinsed under tap took off leather case and removed battery.
Then filled large bowl with methalated spirits and put in the phone, remove casing if possible.better if you can lift the keypad up as this is where the water sits and causes the drama.
then just swish around for a few minutes.Any water in the phone will float to the top. then just dry the phone with a hair drier. Not too close.
re plug battery and put directly on charger.
    worked
