I'll be happy if 'Bad Grandpa' gets the Oscar it's nominated for.

I also find it strange that perfectly ordinary proles want to..

    - know what the Oscar nominations are
-worry about who's hot and whose not on the red carpet, and if someone's dress looked marginally less good than somone else wearing almost exactly the same dress.
    -who won
-who went to the right parties
-not find out the results before seeing the torrent of the awards show
-having an opinion about any aspect of the awards show - such as how long it was or how not-funny the presenter was.

Having said that - I did click on this topic (though didn't look at the nominations)

But it is still better than Cannes. I know someone from Thailand who goes every year. And you can see every single person in his FB pix taking selfies on the red carpet.

I never saw 12 years of slave, but I think Captain Phillips will do well as will American Hustle.

    Cambodia's first Oscar nomination
    Fri, 17 January 2014

Cambodia is going to the Oscars.

Director Rithy Panh’s The Missing Picture, shortlisted for the honour late last month with eight other films, has been chosen as one of the five nominees for the Academy Award for best foreign-language film.

The Missing Picture, which in May earned the top prize in the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section, employs a mixture of miniature clay figures and archival footage in recounting Panh’s experiences and memories of the Khmer Rouge period.

“I’m very happy for me and happy for Cambodia,” he told the Post late yesterday evening, just moments after learning of his nomination via an SMS from a friend in the US.

“It’s a good moment for all of us. We’ve had many problems, and sometimes good news like this can make people feel proud of their country.”

Panh added that the nomination – Cambodia’s first ever – showed the talent of craftsmen working in the local filmmaking industry. “Now people know where we are,” he laughed.

Picture will face off with Denmark’s The Hunt, Italian entry The Great Beauty, Belgium’s The Broken Circle Breakdown and Palestinian effort Omar.

So it's the Cambodian Wallace and Gromit then.

It is a visual feast and has pace aplenty, which more than makes up for a very simplistic story.

People have their own opinions on what is good. My brother didn't like it at all. I'll have to see it for myself to judge.

Almost agree. The story was a bit too shit to make up for the other stuff.

    There's a 5Gb 1920x1080 3D version on kickass. Does it justice.
