Got a new phone ............Nokia 520

In hospital the other week having a camera up my bum it became clear I was going to need a new phone to keep in contact with my customers since my old candy bar was not up to the task.

So looking to get the most phone for the least cash I went for the Nokia 520 at 4990 baht.

Thailand seems to be Samsung territory and you don't see too many people with a Nokia but Samsung has nothing with these specs at this price .
So....after owning it a week and throwing a few tantrums whilst I learnt how to use it ( still learning ) have to say it more than does what I had hoped for. The big 4" screen is the minimum you want if you're going to be surfing a lot and the HD quality is excellent. It'll play youtube videos in HD without buffering and the sound is pretty good too. Takes good pictures and HD video too so no need for me to carry my camera for just a few city snapsots

Am I pleased ?....................yes I am.
Would I recommend it ? .............yes I would

Might not be the best but its probably the best for the money.

Probably right, Peter, but I don't wanna think about it cause he was probably fresh from the event, happy hormones still running, sweaty, pink cheeked, singing, possibly naked (except for his cricket pads and I love Kitty bra),... Not a pleasant image...

Yes it has. Now, if I get on a bus and see some pretty thing with her face buried in an iphone game, I can sit down next to her and surf porn in an unobtrusive kind of way. Can't beat 'em ....join em

Best not ask me any technical questions yet. I only just worked out how to store my contact numbers .....which is not under contacts because they have renamed it ' people ' just to confuse newbies like myself. Ask me again next month

If you do get one, the manual is in Thai but you can download an English version for free off the net. The 520 was originaly priced at about 5800 so its a lot cheaper now.

Nice full review here - comes out very well...

Nokia Lumia 520 review | Phone Reviews | TechRadar

The Nokia Lumia 520, much like its big brother the Nokia Lumia 620, is a jack of all trades and a master of none - although manages to make a good fist of nearly all it tries, for the price.
It looks good, it's got a decent screen both in terms of size and resolution, it rarely stutters or slows down, it's great for calls and messaging, reasonable for media and okay for photos.
Combine that with a lower price tag and we reckon that this just might be the best entry level Windows Phone 8 handset that you can buy and certainly the best value

I had a feel of it today in Lotus early evening, doesnt feel as cheap as those samsungs and unlike bettys pony its not a boring black rectangle, then something inside said step back and walk away. An hour later met up with an old friend an he introduced me to the idea of "a drinking phone"" Fukkin genius when you think about it

Oh dear.....well my new toy didn't last long. It hung on me today so I thought if I removed the battery and replaced it problem would be sorted. Unfortunately, I broke the screen trying to remove the cover so it is now a bin job. It appears that this is quite a common problem so buyer beware ! If you already have one ( sorry AO ) then be careful removing the cover and don't try to prise it open by sticking your nail in the slot where the earpiece is.

I think you mean "Read of others similar experiences when they are too retarded to read the instruction book".

I'm very sorry to hear you broke the screen of your new phone. But the user guide doesn't say to "pull up the screen". It says to put your thumbnail in the seam between the screen frame and the back cover, then to bend the back cover which makes it just pop off.

Yes.......thats a fair cop and I fess up. I had actually taken off the cover before no problem using the correct method but today it was more haste and less speed and I only have myself to blame. It appears a new screen is between 1000 and 1500 depending where you shop so thats something for me to do tomorrow.

    You ning Nong bangers.
    I've got a 520 and an 820 .
The 820 has a better camera and that's about it .. Was 10,000 more for the camera and a heavier body.
The 520 is a great ph for the money , how they managed to break the screen opening it up has got me , its been stepped and sat on , dropped and swam in a beer puddle overnight still soldiering on .. Wish I could post pics straight off the ph tho .. No idea..

I found out recently that my credit card has bonus points, and I've amassed so many I can afford a variety of telephonic gadgets.

Trouble is, I don't need one.

I suppose I shall have to wait for the Galaxy S5...

    Don't think so.

Rumors have already suggested that the Galaxy S5 will be released in two design variants: one with a metal exterior and a flexible OLED display, another with a plastic exterior and a standard OLED display.
