My old Samsung 37" is on it's way out, so I'm looking for a new LED / LCD telly at the moment. Probably in the 25-30k price range, around 42-47" size.
Anybody have some recommendations regarding brand, what to look for / avoid, please?

About 8 months ago I got an LG 42 incher for 16,000 on sale. Super thin and the best high def picture I have seen. We have a Samsung that is about 18 months old and it cant compare.
My only advice is don't buy anything manufactured in China.
Recently bought a 40'' Samsung which is just dandy.
Ive just bought a 50inch LG in Bangkok for 18 k.
Just a dumb one not a fancy fucker that can boil eggs.
I've had a 50 inch LG in Australia for years, never had a problem and a good picture.
Don't pay anymore than 18 K, Big C sells them.
Just bought a cheap Toshiba 29" for 6,500b and the picture is just fine for what I want. Which is playing games.
Only problem is it doesn't have dual language button should I want to use it for watching Thai tv.
The picture on my Samsung is fantastic.
I am also planning on buying a new TV this weekend, probably a 42 inch. Any ideas where Phillips are manufacturing theirs nowadays?
Bought a Phillips 4 yrs ago and it wrapped it's tits in a couple of months back
but couldn't say for sure where it was made.Should be easy enough to find out
where anything is made by checking before hand.
No more Samsung for me ! Especially now that I know that they program their TV to die faster...

I got a SONY BRAVIA quite cool.
It is WIFI connected and kids roam You tube for funny things and songs.
So LCD or LED, Sony or Samsung have great SMART TV's

It may be co-incidence, but every Panasonic item I have bought in Thailand has had a remarkably short lifespan.
I suspect they are dumping substandard items but, whatever, I will be avoiding their stuff in future by way of a precaution.

That is the sort of size, price and specs I am looking at. not interested in watching television, but have a huge movie collection.
17-18 years ago I bought 3 TV's, 2 Panasonics and a Sony. Not long afterwards my wife won a Hitachi TV in a lucky draw in Carrefour.Originally Posted by Thormaturge
All of them packed in this year. Although one Panasonic is just about watchable but have to keep giving it a good whallop every now and then to get a good picture. The others developed problems with the picture before packing in all together, and also the Hitachi has been repaired twice in the last 2 years before packing up a few months ago with the usual problem (the ON/OFF switch ceases to function.)
I've just replaced one TV and I'm on the lookout for a few more but not in any kind of a rush.
bought a Samsung LED 42" a couple of months back...okay except the only input for satellite TV is HDMI so still gotta get a new box as current box only has RGB output..tried converter cable..no go.
Sony Bravia 32 inch(guessing) Smart features, wifi... was around 500 Usd beginning of the year 2013.
Has HDMI as well, so often PC gets connected to share stuff...
Kids facebook message in part of screen and rest is movie some times, Pranks video on you tube is a hit for kiddies too..
Wifey use it as stereo, or karaoke, goes on you tube, search for singer adds best and has a 1 hour video song connected to stereo speakers...

Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !
is it possible that tv's, whatever brand, suffer a lot in Thailand because of the daily power fluctuations with the electricity.
I also had already several broken harddisks and broken modems because of these power fluctuations in the electricity over here.
Heavily influenced by the fact that the oldest piece of electrical equipment I own (a clock radio bought 36 years ago) is Philips, and continues to work perfectly, I have decided upon a Philips 42 inch with 3D. Can still watch programmes and movies in 2D but will now be able to buy blu-ray disks of the best movies and watch them in 3D when the mood takes me.
Will do a write up on this and the Blackberry Z10 once I have had some use out of them.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.
