what cooking shows are recommended ?
the travel and cooking ones are interesting , but what about some straightforward basic cooking shows without too many fancy ingredients or kitchenware.

Gordon Ramsay's home cooking is ok, you can find it available to download from thepiratebay.
Jamie Oliver's latest series is ok too
Yeah, oliver is good value.
Quite enjoyed this guys shows too.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and the River Cottage
I do like Top Chef - but mostly because Padma Lakshmi is really easy on the eye.
Master Chef UK and Australia (incl the 'Junior' version) both are good because it proves that judges do not need to be wankers as they are in Master Chef US.
Can't stand her accent - but otherwise I do enjoy Annabel Langhein's 'Free Range Cook' - good, rustic cooking.
It's all about baking nowadays.

The early Masterchef Aust seasons were good, maybe the first 3, then it slowly stopped being about the cooking and too much of the show was devoted to the 3 bozos and whoever the celebrity guest was. They even had the Dalai Llama on, wtf he has to do with cooking I don't know.
They also, I believe upped the quality of the contestants to levels beyond the average amateur chef.
Almost forgot - because sadly, he's no longer with us:
Keith Floyd - what a character (and a pretty good cook) he was.
Also enjoyed this guys shows, Hestons Feasts I think was one series.
Heston Blumenthal
^ Agree, that guy is really amazing although most of his stuff is probably not really suitable for amateur cooking skills.
This one should suit you!Originally Posted by baldrick

Alton Brown- Good Eats. Great show to learn from. He often describes in great detail how the dish originated.
One of my favourite programs airing in England at the moment:
That's proper lush...
I like Saturday Kitchen Live.
There are endless numbers of cooking shows and videos on youtube. You probaby couldn't watch them all. Many good Thai cooking videos as well.
I really enjoy watching Anthony Bourdain. Mixture of travel and food.
Australian Masterchef I enjoy, much more entertaining than the U.K show,I enjoy the locations they choose around Australia and then a trip abroad.
This is all you need;

Cant go wrong with the cooking with Damo series on youtube.
Mario Batali comes to mind.....if you can still can find his programs on TV [any where]. Has the passion and skill - mixed with the simple layman territory.
Aside.....do any of you folks remember the old BBC produced "cooking" program, Two Fat Ladies? Approx. mid to late '90s. Classic.
