That's not strictly true as you can get the kindle application for PC, phone etc. However, the files are encrypted and can only be used via this personalised application and there is a restriction of (I think 5) devices having a specific book at any one time.

I hear the google book app is getting more popular due to the lack of restrictions and more formats that can be read...

You are right. I forgot that option. That is because I cannot take it seriously. Reading on the computer or even a smartphone is not fun. Tablet computers may change that. But I still much prefer eInk for reading.

I've had my Kindle for a couple of years with no plobrems. I ordered a Kindle Fire last night which should arrive within a week.
