Wifi streaming media player or Internet (wifi) tv?

I want to connect my TV (with wifi) to my computer and watch streaming TV.
what is the best method to do this?
Should I buy a internet (wifi) TV, a TV with wifi that connects with wifi to my computer.
Or should I buy a normal LED TV and connect a wifi streaming media player or a smart Tv box to my TV. This media player will connect via wifi to my computer so that I can watch streaming TV.
Something as the network media player from sony (SMP-N200).
So what is the best to buy?
the internet tv or a normal led tv together with the network media player?

Do you have good internet speed? (There's Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test, if you want to find out.) What kind of streaming do you want to do (live sports, TV shows, HD movies)? I don't know where you're at but IMNSFHO there isn't a wifi connection in Thailand that's fast enough for HD quality live sports streaming. my speed is min 6 MB, max 9.9 MB.
I have the 10 MB adsl deal from 3BB and I never had problems.
I can watch live streaming TV on my PC.
But now I want to connect it to my TV.
The only problem was that my office is on the other side of the house, too far away from the living room.
But I think I found the solution with these android stick computers.
I will connect this to my TV and make a wifi connection to my PC in my office.
I hope it works.

It's basically a USB device that contains a fully functional Android computer with HDMI port and usually SD card slot.

You plug it into the HDMI socket, connect it to Wifi and use an external keyboard to load things like Chrome and stream video.

That's a simple example. Being an Android device, you have full access to the Play store and can load all sorts of apps, media streamers, radio, etc.

Have a look at PLEX (do a google search). It is a free media streaming software. Basically turns your computer into a wifi streaming media server. It already works with some brands of smart TV from LG and samsung. Plus you can get it for android, Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac and Linux devices and you can stream the media from your computer to any device with a wifi connection. And a plus is that it looks really nice as far as the interface goes. It also can stream video from the internet as well.

It's really good for free!

HD consumes an awful lot of bandwidth.

But you can get a fairly steady SD stream on a 2Mb connection, providing there is sufficient buffer and you don't mind a delay at the start.

^It doesn't seem to be focused much on streaming live TV. I didn't see many major TV networks either, like CNN, FOX, ESPN. It does have BBC player which televises live broadcasts, I believe. But I looked it into buying it (BBC player) and they wouldn't provide service to LOS rez.

I'm not that interested in its ability to stream from Internet sources though (although that is one of its big features) - I more intend to use it as a home media server.

All these boxes that stream paid for services are all well and good as long as you can pay for them.

You're better off streaming with XBMC/Navi, at least you haven't shelled out for it if it's a crap stream.

20mb all the time in Bkk - True adsl, cheap (about 650 baht?). I've watched the cycling, cricket, rugby, football, all streamed live through standard torrent sites. No problem. If I paid for ESPN or whatever then it'd be even better.

If you pay for a good VPN then you'll get good bandwidth and not have to worry about crappy Thai popups and stuff.

Obviously, I'm only using a laptop which I hdmi out to an 24"LCD (LED backlit) screen I picked up for about 6000 baht; nice for my desk (the missus and her mum watch Thai tv on the main TV... ).

I'd be interested to hear how the Android pc stick works - if anybody gets one going. Not sure it'd do anymore than using my Android phone via the wifi, 3G or 4G (if I had it...) connection?
