    BBC threatens to drop Neighbours

Neighbours has been shown on the BBC since 1986

Long-running Australian soap Neighbours could be dropped by the BBC following protracted negotiations over broadcasting rights. The BBC said that if agreement was not reached in the "very, very near future" the money would be allocated elsewhere.

Same as "Star Trek" - the BBC wouldn't pay the cash, so Sky 1 grabbed it. I'm sure Sky 1 could find a bob or two for Neighbours!

^it says it's on twice a day. Is that the same show shown twice a day, or two different shows on the same day? Either way, people sure lead sad lives

The last time I watched Neighbours the best actor in it was Bouncer the labrador. It could have just been that he was given the best lines, but even so, the gravitas and empathy he put into the role, powerful stuff....And that time that he caught Harold taking a dump on Paul's lawn expecting him to get the blame....Oh how we cheered for him.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

Nah, Benny was best: "Oi do love you, Miss Doyanne". Didn't have much of an Aussie accent though.

I saw 'Adam Chance' (male heartthrob from Crossroads) in a pub once - queer as a coot - handbag and everything; having the time of his life he was.

The most watched soap opera in the world is 'The Bold and the Beautiful'.
    Just thought you should know.

William, I'm sorry, I don't understand why you are so relieved that a soap that you don't watch will no longer be shown in a country you no longer live in

Unless, of course, the thread title was named purely to gain extra posts.

20 must be some kind of record...for you

    Whore

Nick, simply that it may now be safer to visit the UK once again. Last time I was there, I spent two hours with my sister and her friend during the entire time of which they spoke about nothing but the goings on in East Enders. They may as well have been speaking Chinese for all it meant to me. I recall leaving the situation thinking "this lot in the UK live fcuking sad lives!".

MM, I think you should include a question in any application to live in Aus whether or not the applicant has seen Neighbours/Home & Away/Prison Cell Block H/Flying Doctors, etc. If the answer is "yes", deduct 100 points

Conversation on returning from 2 years around the world....

"Yes, after Australia we went deep into the forests of Borneo....."
"Do you know Dirty Den's come back in Eastenders?"
    "No"
"Oh, well, just after Sam killed Johnny........(continues ad nauseum)"

There are magazines dedicated to the goings-on in soap operas - It really is quite surreal. Weird too from a sociological viewpoint that the most popular type of television program is one in which actors pretend to be people living 'normal' lives but with concentrated incident.
