Who will be remembered in 50 years fron now ?

I recently read in the news that most of the current bands will soon be forgotten, including U2. I used to think of U2 of one of the recent "super band" but thinking about it, there are already history, read forgotten.

If you go back to the past 50 years, there are (my opinion) only 3 bands/singer that may be remembered in 50 years from now : Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.

What's your opinion ? Are you somehow more optimistic than me and think more bands are worth remembering ?

    Elvis wasn't "A Band".

It depends what criteria you are using, but Michael Jackson has sold more albums than Simon and Garfunkel by a country mile. Why would anyone remember them? They had, what, two really memorable songs? What about Elton John?

If it is just "who" as in musicians then I believe Louis Armstrong and Roy Orbison will be there in 50 years' time.

I did think of Frank. Motown won't be forgotten either, so Marvin Gaye comes to mind.

Well just going on what bands/singers were around 50 years ago and are they remembered today,I would say there would be more than your 3 remembered.

I think that if you made good music then you will be remembered.I am sure people will still be playing the rolling stones, Bowie,Floyd in 50 years time.Abba will probably still be selling their greatest hits to. Queen? Led Zep? All will be remembered. I also think that music will be so shit in 50's years time that people will not have much choice but to go back to a time when it was good.

So many that should all be around in another 50 or hundred years, after those already mentioned, Bee Gees, Abba, Blondie, CCRevival, Chubby, Chuck, DDDBM&Titch, Fleetwood Mac, Johny Cash, and loads more.

I think the ones more likely to be forgotten is the modern crap that's being sold on the strength of video marketing rather than musical merit.

I remember when John Diamond was chronicling his slow death in a national daily, and pouring out his thoughts. He said "When I was young, the reason my parents hated the music I liked was because it was so different to what they heard when they were young. The reason I hate what my kids like is because it's exactly the same as what I heard when I was young". (I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it).

This was in the middle of the Abba revival!

There might be some original voices around, but there's been very little original music for many a year. There's a program that pumps out formulaic bubble gum pop and "Nigger" music which the whites love so much, and there's autotune so that even the worst singer can get away recording a song.

I take it you are not a fan but obviously she has many as she has sold tens of millions of albums. If you sell albums in that quantity then you are generally talented. Her last album has sold about 26.5 million copies and she can sing and write her own songs.

If you sell albums in that quantity you are generally shackled to one of the major corporations and able to out compete independent musicians and producers on advertising, distribution, volume, and price .

She is a manufactured corporate whore.

You have not burst anything, what actually makes you think you have any power here to change peoples opinion of what music they like? You obviously know nothing about Adele or how she started in the business. You seem to have a problem there, go see a doctor.

    Here is some good music

and here is something for the tone deaf like you
