Digital Media Players (Reboot)

There was a thread running on this subject a year or so ago, but I can't find it, so starting over:

What Digital Media Player do you use?

And does it play 3D movies in MKV and ISO format?

Where did you buy it?

I have an Egreat R200S which I can't seem to get to recognise USB hard disks but works well as a network player (bought in Panthip Chiang Mai).

And a HiMedia HD910A which seems to play about anything (from Fortune City).

Previously I used to use Brite-Views, but the model I have doesn't do 3D.

The 3D on a Samsung 8 Series is better than the cinema, unbelievable picture.

Just ditched my Xbox's for WD Live's, they work a treat.......... no idea on the 3D stuff though as I have none of it.

That's sort of OK if you want to dedicate a PC to it, but I'm really referring to standalone media players, the sort of thing you see here:

Just ditched my Xbox's for WD Live's, they work a treat.......... no idea on the 3D stuff though as I have none of it.

The WD live makes a great server although it's a bit sluggish as a network player.

Do you use WDLXTV?

The 3D on a Samsung 8 Series is better than the cinema, unbelievable picture.

Just plug an external HDD into the TV direct via USB, you can view and select movies to play directly from your TV. Works with music and pictures, too.

If you get a WiFi enabled HDD then there is no need to unplug it as you can load movies from your computer without unplugging.

I tend to download and use the WDLTV as a server to organise the files between a NAS and a few other 2/3TB disks.

That way I can use the HiMedia to access files locally or on other storage around the house, rather than have to keep switching USBs on the TV.

Similarly I can play non-3D content on the other TVs in the house.

These things are getting quite cheap now, even the 3D ready ones are in the $150 range or less.

I have 2 x 2TBs plugged into it and it runs as an FTP, NFS and SAMBA Server, so it's available to pretty well everything on the network.

I can't stream Blurays over wifi, but I'm planning on wiring the place up so that isn't really an issue.

Yeah I didn't think to plug externals into it as that kinda defeats the reason I purchased them (stream media from my server).

Historical, I have an 8TB NAS but there isn't much value in putting larger disks into it as most of the space gets eaten up for backup.

So I just buy externals.

next time I upgrade the NAS/SAN I'll buy something a lot bigger, it will probably be a third of the price!

I've only got this older tv with WIFI

Since bought I rarely use media box 1 of my biggest wastes of money acryan ACR-PV76120.

I use this all the time and it's free I love it Serviio media server you can be watching different movies from different devices phones/TV's/tablet off the server.
Piss easy to setup

I use Mede8er... excellent....plays everything so far....

250X very small and portable 2900 THB, can add up to a 2TB HDD as well.

Can plug in 2 external HD's as well.

Very very happy with it.

^ I'm looking at Mede8er but they (well Realtek) have a few bugs to work out with 3D in the new model.

It's amazing how many of these players need updates and you have to dig around to find them.
