What Foreign, Tribal, or Alternative Music Do You Listen To?

My favourite of all time is Ladysmith Black Mambazo. I must have been about 12 when Paul Simon employed them for his Graceland album. I've loved them ever since and seen them live once.

Then there is Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. A Blind Aboriginal singer.

I haven't got a lot of foreign artists in my collection. One I have got is the wonderful Carla Bruni.

And a recent addition to my collection, although I haven't given her much of a listen yet. Bebe from Spain.

I must have a lot more in my collection but that's all I can think of right now. Anybody else listen to slightly alternative or foreign music?

It's very nice but my brain has never had the patience for instrumental music, I don't know why.

I even hate it when normal songs have a long introduction. If they don't start singing within 20 seconds I've normally skipped forward a track.

You used to get these guys on the high street quite a lot. I'd always stop and have a listen. Don't see them so much any more.

The second one's lovely. Didn't Paul Simon do that tune? I'd rather be a something than a something?

^ What category does that fall in to?

    That's a regular song isn't it?

Tribal music sucks. There's a reason it's marginalized. It's shit. Natives banging drums gets boring after a while.
Paul simon and the african shit really shit me off.

I've always thought that the Thai's could make a lot of money by capitalizing on the "Pan Pipes" craze we had in the 80's except they should do it with the monk chanting you hear at funerals and weddings.

Some sad twat would buy it!

I just listened to Blues last post and think that if there was a narrator, story and sword fight going on in the background it would be a lot better.

I had something like that in my collection years ago, but it wasn't me who bought it so the sad twat comments doesn't count.

They were called Inigma I think and they mixed gentle dance beats in with tribal and religious chanting. I liked it at the time, not sure if I would now.

I can't find a Thai monks one, but I'm sure they did one. I still like it actually.

Hardly tribal, but Silvio Rodriguez from Cuba is great-

    As is Freddy Aguilar, Filipines-

Paco de Lucia, modern flamenco (but this one is a rumba)-
