    BluRays in Fortune

I found my favourite Fortune BluRay shop shutdown the other day. The next day, it had reopened but they didn't have any discs.

The solution? They have walls of monitors displaying the movies they have ripped, you buy a smart card, and they load cash on it. Then you take a USB 3.0 drive and fill it up from their list for Bt40 a movie.

They also do a streaming service using a wireless-capable multimedia box from Mixi.co.th (the HD910), which a few people were signing up for, although I don't know how much they charge for it.

So I went and bought a 2TB USB3.0 drive from JET (about Bt2500) and took around an hour to "buy" 25 bluray movies for Bt1000. It takes about 3 minutes a movie on USB 3.0.

I bought the media box as well because it's the first one I've seen that takes USB 3.0 and has 802.11n - cost: Bt4200.

Cost of 25 top rated proper Blurays at say Bt600 a pop = Bt15,000.

I'll take the drive back after a few months and top it up with whatever is new.

Saves all the pissing about downloading the rips yourself, even if you do have the bandwidth, and the mediabox has other Internet streams built in for TV and films, etc. (haven't really finished looking at it yet).

(Oh, and the HD910 supports DNLA and SAMBA).

    Sorry I don't get it.
The actual downloading of content is just a mere click away in the comforts of your humble abode.
And yet you advise to head out to Fortune and hassle with the locals for illegal contraband in broad daylight as less pissing about???

Sorry you don't get it, but then again you probably have significantly faster broadband (and perhaps no download limit) than I do.

If you take the escalators at the Tesco end and go up to the 4th floor - as you get off the escalator the shop is first on the right.

    Apology accepted
Even with a slower broadband, just let it download at it's own pace. A week or two won't hurt.....
But still you gotta admit, it less hassle than making your way to Fortune. Which is like a dirty arse of an area stuck between Asoke & Ratchada.

Huh? Two stops on the MRT from Sukhumvit and you walk out next to the entrance.

    What are you on about?

Oh yes, and the princely sum of 18 baht each way.

Let see, the comfort of aircon bliss in my living room. Or stepping out to take MRT with the sweaty runts....no thanks.
18 baht plus cost of thumb drive, plus cost of contraband, plus a snack or two. A far more costly exercise.
Plus money saved could have gone for a better broadband package.
    Don't you agree?
