UK Nova torrents site shuts down

UK Nova is kaput. It has shut down after a cease and desist order.

Not good... Thats where 70% of the TV I watch comes from. I also use thebox but unless they are free/neutral torrents I find it hard to upload enough to keep a decent ration even if I leave my torrents seeding for weeks on end.

Lets hope something will pop up to replace it.

Only The Box offers a similar range of UK TV, but they're kunts, so hopefully I'll be able to find everything I want elsewhere.

I don't understand why they (and all torrent sites) didn't already set up servers in a country that tells the UK/Us where to stick it.

UKNova was the only 'ethical' torrent site I know of too. It wouldn't share anything that would/has been released on dvd or for profit. Only free to air TV shows.

A lot of TV shows are released on DVD, plus a lot of the shows on UKNova are paid for by commercials which are removed from UKNova's torrents.

So there is nothing ethical about it.

UKNova had a strict policy against the sharing of pay-TV content and "television or radio programme [content] that is available for purchase worldwide from retailers, on CD, DVD or video".

Yes, and never would you see them sharing it.

But making torrents available is not "sharing" my friend.

Downloading or Uploading them, on the other hand, is.

I think you'll find other torrent sites use similar narrative "it is illegal to share copyrighted material, blah boah".

^But that's my point - They wouldn't host or make available any torrent (tv show, movie, radio show etc) that had or would be released for sale on dvd.

I'm not disagreeing with you that all torrent sites are in a way un-ethical, like you pointed out regarding the paid for adverts but out of all the sites I use UKNova had the strictest rules on what they would allow.

“It is one of the fundamental principles of UKNova that we do not wish to cause any harm to potential revenue streams for broadcasters and programme makers. For this reason, no television or radio programme that is available for purchase worldwide from retailers, on CD, DVD or video, is allowed to be shared on this website. Please do not ask for material to be uploaded here that is available to buy. Such material is not allowed.”

Just a bit shocked to see it taken down before a few of the other UK TV sites that host anything.

I'm not sure how they could know that something that say aired yesterday wouldn't be sold on DVD in say 6 months time. That said their ethics weren't what made me use the site, it was the quick downloads and the fact that I could get stuff from home that I couldn't easily find elsewhere. It's a shame they have gone.

Be mindful that if your nominee bogs up his ratio, TheBox will deduct it from your score.
