Isn't quick frozen better than canned? You can't tell me your garden produces peas year round unless you have a dark green house and alternate light cycles in segmented sections.
PS, when I was a kid I loved creamed corn. Haven't had it in half a decade now. I can't recall having mushy peas either but I'll go for frozen peas and corn if it suits the dish and in those last two I believe they do.
Although we have no trouble around here finding asparagus broccoli or cauliflower fresh at the market as well as corn on the cob I rarely see peas. Beans yes, but not peas.
BTW that chicken leg smothered in gravey looked tender and juicy. I give it an "A" on that alone.
I hate peas. Peas are little nodules of sand that nature created to ensure Brits and their ilk would never go hungry while laughing at their incredible lack of taste.
Lima beans are their whiter big brother....no flavor other than sand filled little pocket of hate and envy of those who possess taste buds.
Please, for heavens sake, remember that God has a sense of humor. Peas are proof.

sugar snap peas on the other hand...
Quick frozen is better than fresh in many cases, there's no end of sources that'll back that up but I first learned that from a nutritionist who visited our remote location some 30 years ago. But there's fresh as in picked and cooked the same day, and there's fresh as in its never been frozen but it's been out of the ground for an unknown amount of time and the taste/nutrients are severely degraded.
The frozen peas we're typically using here are from NZ or France, available year-round (obviously), and taste great. I won't hold my breath waiting for the anti-frozen brigade to show themselves shelling the peas they bought at the markets here and putting them on their dinner plates as a side
