The haddock here is much better than cod, which i think is pangalian(sp) and is a lot wetter
    Sarsons yes, ketchup...hell no.

With what we have here I prefer cod...especially fresh cod. But that's in about the same price range as decent steaks. So usually end up with frozen. But even that has shot up in price in the last couple of months. About $4 more per 2 lbs. than it used to be.

1/ My kids favorite is a Hawaiian Pizza. Have what ever Pizza topping you like.
Me? I hate anchovies on Pizza.

2/ Beetroot is great. A tradition on Hamburgers ... depends on what country you hail from.
I eat it as a savory snack.

3/ ... and I'll pass on the 'crispy' bacon on things like a burger.
    Overcooking IMHO

That's the price you pay for living smack in the middle of the country. Fresh cod here is cheap as chips. Typically 4.99 a pound here.

Try about $8 per pound here. At Kroger. Yeah flyover country is a real drag.

Who else was it that used to avoid veggies like the plague? I'm getting more and more like him. Usually eat more veggies during the summer, when I can get them local.

Been a while since I contributed 'owt of my own to this thread, so here's a recent chicken vindaloo.

Been having problems with the quality of vinegar, but this was better. Used to blend the spices and the wet vegetables separately for the chicken/pork, before combining, but I cook that much that it crowds the pan, so have taken to blending everything together and cooking before putting the meat in.
    Dinner-ingred-jpg

Fried it off with the spices and chilies until the onions and ginger etc had cooked.

    Dinner-cook-jpg

Had a nice pan of it in the end, but the rogan josh I did the other night and the karahi were better. Can't quite get the sourness over here that I get elsewhere. Dunno why.

I used to know someone who refused to eat anything that wasn't white. You know that scene in Beetlejuice when their faces start falling off....?

    Not a surprise since you are so far from an ocean. $8 is getting into salmon territory here. Some prices from the local stores;

    Fresh Cod 5.99 pound
    Fresh Halibut 16.99 pound
    Patagonia prawns 5.99 pound
Copper river Sockeye Salmon 11.99 pound

Never had atlantic cod before but growing up in a fishing family my experience is any fish from Alaska is far superior to it's counterpart from anywhere else in the world. Besides I wouldn't know the difference anyway I mostly eat salmon and halibut, most people around here tend to think cod is shit no matter what ocean it comes from.

I was just pointing out to Skkin how cheap it is here. I got better options.

Sacrilege I know...but I don't like salmon. There I said it. The wife loves it. So she usually only gets it when we go out. No use in her making it just for one. Don't think I've ever tried halibut.

Used to eat a lot of Lake Erie perch back home. Loved it...then came the mercury scare. All the fireman's fish frys and such used perch. After the scare most of them started using smelt which I never liked near as much as perch. I think they're using perch again but not sure. Lake Erie and fisheries are supposedly in much better shape now.

I'm not a fan either, and lobster (for the price) isn't all it's made out to be.

I like extra sauce with my pasta

    Medium cooking for my steak.

    Each to their own

Sounds like a east european/baltic who emigrated to England/USA early on.

Native born Aussies are more nasal with their diction.

Swedish would be my guess. No matter where he's from, he deserves some time behind bars for cooking a steak that way
