Done it before but can't remember how, thinking about a white gravy full of Prawns on top of the steak with some steamed potatoe and veg on the side. Or maybe just garlic prawns on top, with salad on the side. Got a grocery run tomorrow so there's time to decide...

Yeah I've had it too, part of a surf 'n turf.

Have you ever tried carpet-bag steak? Completely unappetizing name but actually really good: steak with oysters.

^Yes. I really like steak and oysters and they go together perfectly as a starter then main, but carpet-bag doesn't work for me . Maybe because the oysters are hot, which is fine with Killers, Mornay, Rocky's, and so on, but plain oysters should be served ice cold imo.

Battered shrimp and onion rings goes down best with a Jack Daniels bbq sauce... ala TGI Fridays. IMHO

^Totally correct but I can't home-cook battered anything as well as restaraunts do. Battered foods are grouped with things like Lasagna and Thai food and Pizza to me, which means going out to eat and leaving the cooking to experts .

Had to fend for myself so I went to the local supermarket and grabbed St. Louis style ribs and some jojo's. Definitely not smoked and we can do better with our wood chips but in a pinch...

I grabbed a bottle of whiskey and some rum. I wasn't planning on eating tonight. I figured I could stand to loose a few brain cells as well as a few pounds.

I know you already think I'm stupid.... but hey, at least I'm not fat.

Or you would think I'm just good fun...

Well, it appears Jack's country has a lot to answer for ...

    Scotland The Cold

We had a lovely holiday in Scotland, but you don’t go there for the weather, do you? Or the food, for that matter. I’m no’ kidding about the worst meal of my life – I’m sure there are good restaurants in Scotland, it’s just that we didn’t find them.

The worst meal was in a place called Dunbar, on the coast near Edinburgh.
We arrived at lunchtime on a bleak Tuesday – raining and cold – having been lost for a while.

Tried one pub, no food, sorry, and in the next, the inappropriately named, Palace Hotel, we were ushered into a side room where lunch was served.

    We were alone.
The room was cold, heated by an air-blower the size of a phone.
I ordered beef and Guinness pie, what could go wrong?

Well, it was a stew with a lump of pastry sitting like a beached dolphin on top.

The meat was tough and it may have had some Guinness waved over it, but that’s all.
    The vegetables were grey.
We trudged back to the car and naturally it was all my fault.

I just think you’re starting behind the eight-ball when your national dish is minced lung boiled in a stomach (ie haggis).

Hard to come back from that.
No wonder they wash it down with whisky.

But the whisky is very fine indeed, and so is the countryside and the castles.
But next time I’ll take a cut lunch.

Pre sports watching afternoon Reef and Beef.

Marinated the Prawns since this morning in EVOO, S&P, and garlic.

    Well done, HW!

^ Quail eggs are quite common here on supermarket salad bars.

Never tried them but something about them being quail eggs just puts me off and the same goes for duck, ostrich, whatever else.

Makes no sense at all though cos I love chicken eggs.

Tonight's dinner then a couple of days of leftovers. Chicken mushrooms and onions with penne noodles in a garlic cream sauce. Home cooking.Dinner-img_20190708_194900-jpg

^ I love a bit of penne, especially a nice creamy chicken option; bet that tastes good.
