    Appliance Advice

As some of you know I am "temporarily" (18 months now) living in a house with no cooking facilities. I've got a coffee maker, a blender and a hot water pot, but that's it: no stove, no oven, no microwave, nada.

I'm getting a bit tired of either dining out or having cold sandwiches at ever meal.

If you were going to buy a portable appliance or two what would you buy? I'm talking hot plate or gas ring, microwave, counter-top oven, electric grill, etc. I can't afford more than a couple things, and would want to buy stuff that would remain useful when I move house in five or six years....

If it were you, what would you buy and what would you cook?

My entire kitchen consists of a rice cooker (bet there's one around already), an electric frynig pan, a cheapo "Otto" toaster oven and water heater (for coffee).
I cook whatever the hell I want! Two electric pans and I'd be in heaven...

Get a double gas hob (less than 1000 B) and I'm sure there's a wok and some pots and pans somewhere.

Something wrong here. This was my first post of the evening and it said I needed to wait 58 seconds before posting. So I waited and tried to post and got the same message again.

And, all of my posts have ended up before the post to which I was referring, which was by forreachingme, below.

    Very odd.

The bloody house isn't that big.

edit: See what I mean. My post always comes out above forreachingme's.

Some trouble with the MySQL database maybe?

Apart from a two-ring gas hob, one of these (excellent for lamb chops, pizza, bread, roast chicken):

and one of these (excellent for E-Sarn sausages, cheese on toast, bacon, steak, etc):

But it needs modifying. Firstly, remove the front panel that stops you putting anything more than 1/4" thick slice of bread inside:

And then modify the wire tray that's supposed to sit on the top so that it can sit on the tray inside:

I also bought a solid stainless steel tray to sit on top to reflect the heat downwards. This makes the grill much hotter, but probably explains why it doesn't last more than a year or so. I've bought two so far but, as they're less than 1,000 baht, that's no big deal.
