A deep fat fryer in Thailand

What you are about to experience may well be a first in Thailand. Below in the pic is my deep fat fryer from the states. My wife almost divorced me for bringing it over here with me. Damn, those airlines do charge a lot for extra over-weight baggage.

You can see my daughter relaxing in the background underneath her Treehouse.

    Now let's get cooking.

Our dog, Pepsi is probably wondering is what is going on. To the left of the picture you can barely see my old-fashioned brick BBQ grill.

    Are you hungry yet?

And 27 minutes later. Perfect! We ate the whole thing and Pepsi cleaned up the bones.

That is a big problem here in Thailand. I settled for some sunflower oil which worked ok.

What a great deep fryer mate.

Best we get up there soon to give it a try out and have you ever tried a leg of pork in the cooker?

We have purchased a few deep fryers from the stainless steel fabrication shops around the place but nothing that big.

The one disadvantage that I see is the cost. Beside the fryer itself, I probably spent about B300 for oil. Just for this one time.

The chicken skin does come out crispy, but the meat itself is moist without being greasy at all.

Coming soon. If it works out ok, might add it to our restaurant's menu in P-lok. My stateside friends say that cooking a deep fat fried duck is the only way to go.

Also we plan on having an expensive Villa (a BKK farang grocery store) turkey this Christmas.

As stated. Much crispier skin. When the chicken, turkey etc. hits the hot oil it seals the skin keeping the meat much juicier. Also, cooks much faster and more evenly in oil.

Downside, no drippings to make gravy.

Just go with my theory. I have eaten butter and pigs lard and also geese lard all my life. That means my body knows there will always be enough of that cholesterol around. It does not need to produce it by itself.

With that diet my blood cholesterol according to my doctor is not good but absolutely perfect and enviable. And since I have stopped trying to reduce weight by eating less fat I was also able to reduce my weight by 12 kg alredy and counting down.

    That chicken really looks delicious.

I would strain the oil and use it again. Good quality oil should be fine for 2 long uses I would think. I sure hope so anyway. I use a big pot on top on the stove using the wok function burner on high. Not as good, but sure can make do. Could never do a whole chicken though. didnt you do a turkey a while back?

A bit off topic but I bought one of these at Lotus a while back. Does a fine job on roast chicken. Cooking time about 35 minutes.

Deep fried turkey!! Awesome! I will have to book a room around Christmas time.

I hear they have outlawed turkey fryer in some states. I guess there were a lot of fires started when some idiots would drop a cold bird into the hot grease. The grease would explode and burst into flames.

I created a massive fire ball once when I threw in 12 frozen fish fingers to a pan of hot oil.
