    Beer Can Chicken

My mom makes this and just told me about it. She says it comes out juicy and tender. Geez, I'll have to try it.

This recipe is from foodnetwork, but close to what Mom said.
    Ingredients

    • 1 (4-pound) whole chicken
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2 tablespoons salt
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 3 tablespoons of your favorite dry spice rub
    • 1 can beer
    Directions

Remove neck and giblets from chicken and discard. Rinse chicken inside and out, and pat dry with paper towels. Rub chicken lightly with oil then rub inside and out with salt, pepper and dry rub. Set aside.
Open beer can and take several gulps (make them big gulps so that the can is half full). Place beer can on a solid surface. Grabbing a chicken leg in each hand, plunk the bird cavity over the beer can. Transfer the bird-on-a-can to your grill and place in the center of the grate, balancing the bird on its 2 legs and the can like a tripod.
Cook the chicken over medium-high, indirect heat (i.e. no coals or burners on directly under the bird), with the grill cover on, for approximately 1 1/4 hours or until the internal temperature registers 165 degrees F in the breast area and 180 degrees F in the thigh, or until the thigh juice runs clear when stabbed with a sharp knife. Remove from grill and let rest for 10 minutes before carving.

Oh, I think that onion needs a smiley face on it.

Ya, I couldn't find a snap with a can of real beer. The pic makes it look rather hooker-ish tho.
Well, it would probably be good with Guiness, and you get to chug half the can down before you start cooking. I'm trying to figure out how to do it in the oven and what to do with the half can of beer you're supposed to drink.

Hell I been hot smoking chickens like that for 15 years, only since I don't drink I save some soda cans and pour some beer in them and that way with 4 cans of beer I can do 8 chickens at a time.
And for the rub I use Mortons Sugar Cure inside and outside, and leave them to hot smoke for a few hours, can't really get them to done with hot smoke and everyone loves em.

when you can wiggle the wings easy they are done. But do as many as your grill will hold as always someone wants one to take home and they are just as good for lunch or dinner tomorrow as they were today..

I had a pic of 8 of them in my Brinkmans Pro Smoker/grill that was taken about a year before I left the states, and I can't find it.

Yep, I've been sticking a cracked can of beer up a chicken's butt and throwing them on the grill for years... Yum, yum, they turn out really juicy... It's a redneck thing...

Go to a big market and look in the salt isle, it should be there in a Blue Bag and they make a smoke flavored one, thats the one I always buy and it will have a seasoning packet inside, throw that away as you do not need it unless you are making hams or bacons, but it makes the finest BBQ rub there is for any thing you want to BBQ.
I think a sack of it is around $6 and it will last you years if not making pickle brine for hams or bacons.

And it has been longer that 15 years that I have done that, cause I was doing it when I still drank and I ain't had a drink in over 27 years, I posted a pic of me with a can of Bud in my hand and a smoked turkey on the BBQ and that was taken in 1981 right after I had smashed my right lower leg.

Looks are very interesting way to cook a chicken Jetty and I will try it.

I particularly like the way Mr. Bean cooks his turkeys and although I have seen it a 100 times I still piss myself laughing.

Here is a Thai variation of something similar.
Not sure if there is any beer in the bottle though.

Fast forward to 2:20 to get to the cooking part.

Nope, That was my work camp, we owned a house in Central Oregon so the kids had a place to go to the same school all the time and that is a 1979 Coachman 5th wheel 35 foot self contained trailer that I used to live in away from home, I had smashed my lower leg on the job of MT. St. Helens clean up after the volcano blew and I was in Longview Wn. at the time.
So I had to stay there for a couple months til they put a joint in the knee of the cast and I could move home.
Most heavy construction hands now have larger travel trailers or motor homes since motels went from $30 a week to $90 a day.

Guarantee there would be enough firepower in that caravan to take on a small third world country. Its a matter of priorities.
