Cherries!

They are just starting to pick them. I drove out to the orchards today and bought a few pounds. It rained heavy which means damage to the crop from the cherries swelling and splitting.


These aren't bings. I'll get the name when I return to the orchards next weekend when some of the other varieties are ready.

I'd rather go for the ripe, deliciously sweet mangoes at 25 bt/kilo at this time of year.

I lived 5 years in the northern Sacramento valley, cherries, walnuts, almonds, peaches, all at roadside stands. Yummy, but the mangos at 25 baht are great as well. Damn 6 or 8 great fruit anyday of the week here in the LOS.

I haven't been to Chico for years but the town used to be surround by fruit tree orchards. Will a chapter in your book be called Pioneer Days? Chico State was well known for it's parties.

Stroller, you can't buy a truely ripe sweet mango here. Those with a low suger content ship better so you have to pour sugar on them. It's not the same.

Not for tomatoes. Local ASDA shop 80p per kilo. No taste though,picked green, ripened in boxes, but great for cooking.

Try a tablespoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar (the cloudy stuff) with a glass of fresh water every morning as well.

The Bings and Raniers are in but sadly the late rains meant a crop not up to last year's results. And I forgot to ask them which cherry was their early harvest variety.

It's hit or miss with each cherry. Some are sweet others not so much.

an almost sweet meyer-like lemon, approx 60 kilo
tommytoes are bad this season usually abut 12 - 14 baht per kilo. Yeah as with every thing else Thais pick their fruit too early.
And. Last but not least; Cherries in Tescos and Rim ping up here, about 1000 - 2000 a kilo forget the weight but a small handfull was over 250 baht they didn't look to be sweet.
