    Another splendid snack.

    So you've had the the tuna spag. after a belly of beer and it was good. Sometimes, however it's nice to have a change. So, tonight it's another gastronomic masterpiece, namely;

    Baked potatoes, bacon and beans.

First off, a couple of spuds, scrubbed clean.

Wire wool pot cleaner things work very well.

    Nice clean spuds

    Place on kitchen towel

Take Great Grandmothers bone handled knife

    Cut spuds a bit

    and again

    Wrap spuds in kitchen towel

    Place in micro.

6- 7 minutes on full power should do. Whilst this is going on get an onion.

Peel and dice. Get some garlic oil that you prepared earlier.

    A close up

Put a splash of oil in a pan and chuck in the onions, low heat.

    Get you bacon.

    Not bad bacon from Macro.

    And one of these

    And chop it up

Chuck it in the pan with onions

    Fry off for a bit.

When the bacon and onions are nearly done, add a splash of this.

and boil off a bit. Should look a bit like this.

Add a can of these and mash 'em up a bit

Remove spuds from micro, check they're done.

    Stir bean and bacon mix.

    Open up your baked spuds

If you like, lay a couple of those plastic cheese slices on your hot spuds

Dump you bacon bean mix on top

    And eat.

That would look great if you were drunk but the spuds looked discusting to a sober man.

The only way to do spuds is wash them, I wouldn't use wire wool, prick all over, (ok make a comment) rub them with sea salt, rosemary, tyme and olive oil and then in the oven for 45 min at about 214c.

The rest of it looked nice appart from the cheese. The bacon looked very nice.

They are slugs that have eaten into the potatoes and then died before harvest!

Melvbot you can really be a bit of a wet sail sometimes.

I found the recipe of use and in the event you were looking for something that was quick and easy to prepare and the kids could enjoy.

Furthermore, I have never seen a piece of bacon (like the one shown on this thread) available in LOS and I have asked my missus to buy bacon like that in the future.

Well done JJ and crack on!

^Howard from Bunters sells that exact bacon. His shop has moved but I know for sure that its still on Sukhumvit 77 somewhere. Does anyone have an address? He does great pies and sausages too.

I can if you want Melv. Most people know how to make a cup of tea though. Have you considered asking a close friend to explain it to you?

Nice work JJ. Not my cup of tea...but oh well. I might ask any of you, since there is a chance of potato lovers out there, how do you find the Thai poatoes? They seem to have consistent sponginess to them, yes? Or perhaps not.

Not thai people. Its taken me years to teach the girls that work for me not to use steamed milk. It deserves its own thread.

May be difficult to find in rural Surin, is there a Tesco's anywhere?
That's where I get my potatoes, they're pretty fresh and good but not suitable for fries and you got to watch for the green bits.
I even planted some in the garden, but the soil wasn't suitable.

The ones in the market are of dubious quality, goodness knows what they treat them with, they don't sprout , just shrink and go mouldy if you keep them for too long.

Please do. Im always interested in the methods different people use to make tea, its my favourite drink.

I had something very similar to eat myself last night. Jacket potato with home made spag bol sauce and a chilli chopped into it done in my little oven thingy. Takes about 40 mins but the skin gets cooked better than it does in a microwave.

I have no problem with Thai spuds, although you're better off sauteing them than chipping and deep frying them.

The 'secret' most places in Thailand serving tea do not seem to know (but you as a Brit undoubtedly do), is to use boiling water, sort of hot or boiled 5 minutes ago won't do.
