Foodie googling: What did we search for in 2017?

    .

Every year, Google releases lists of the 10 most popular searches in a bunch of categories.
Here are the biggest recipe searches from 2017 and some links to results in our recipe collection.

You used to be limited to what you could find in cookbooks or a magazine you had handy. Now, search engines bring a
world of recipes right to your mobile phone.

The most popular recipe searches around the web for 2017 were:

    Beef stroganoff

The earliest known recipe for this Russian dish was published in 1871, titled Beef a la Stroganov, with mustard.
It involved beef, mustard, bouillon and a little sour cream no mushrooms or onions. Since then, the recipe has evolved considerably.

    Hot cross buns

Naturally, searches for this one peaked around Easter time (but if you check with the supermarkets, they're probably starting to show up already).

    Hollandaise sauce

In French cuisine, there are five fundamental "mother sauces" that every decent cook should have in their repertoire.
Hollandaise, a delicate emulsion of egg yolk, melted butter and lemon or vinegar, is one of them.
Traditionally, hollandaise sauce accompanies salmon, asparagus or eggs.

    Chicken cacciatore

"Cacciatore" is Italian for "hunter", so chicken cacciatore is "hunter's chicken", usually with onions, garlic and herbs.
Different regions of Italy have different versions southern Italian variants use red wine, northern use white,
    some might use capsicum.

That collection of pre-war cliches is a sad indictment of the Orstrylian people. Are you seriously telling us that with one of the finest fusion cuisines in the world that that shit is really what people want to eat?

Allspice? How Caribbean. Goes very well with many chicken dishes if used in moderation.

Fraudulent and biased rankings and surveys tend to receive the most attention.

Part and parcel of the general illusion.
