    Thai Tapas

Let's mix it up in the kitchen with a fusion of Thai and Mediterranean Tapas.

A Tapa, in Spanish cuisine, is an appetiser, or snack. It may be cold or hot. In select bars in Spain and across the Med, tapas have evolved into an entire, sophisticated cuisine.
Thrown into the mix the vast assortment of Thai cuisine and spices we can fuse them together to create a mouth watering ever lasting menu of "Thai Tapas"

Lets enjoy this mystical and tantalising journey of the taste buds together as i try and create a different tapa a week.

My first creation was inspired by Storekeeper and his Japanese Mayo in the Dinner thread.

    Ingredients:

    A lemon
    Two cloves of garlic
    A sprig of coriander
    A Basil leaf
    A teaspoon of pepper
    Five tablespoons of Mayonnaise.
    A teaspoon of Olive oil
    A tablespoon of Sriracha sauce

Into the pestle and mortar for some serious grinding action...

Served not on crispy bread but Thai prawn crackers..

A serious tangy burn and immense amount of flavours exploding on the taste buds, would be nice as a starter served with a glass of red.

    Taste the fusion .....

Next on the Thai tapas menu is ..............

    Thai Sushi!

Flatten the Thai sticky rice onto the seaweed then create a trough in the middle and fill with soya and fish sauce along with crab, red chillis and mackeral.

Then roll and compress, using a sharp knife, cut your bite size portions.

Really quick and easy, it tastes great as well.

Scraping the X-Mas leftovers barrel there?

Crab sticks - love the ingredients. Surimi (45%), Water, Wheat Starch, Potato Starch, Rapeseed Oil, Sugar, Salt, Free Range Egg White Powder, Flavouring, Crab Extract (Crustacean), Colour: Lycopene, Free Range Egg Powder, Surimi contains: White Fish, Sugar

However I like this idea so tomorrow I will get involved if that is OK.

Looks like a LIDL prawn cracker, with some sticky rice, a coriander leaf delicately placed on a small gelatinous piece of shit.

Chitty has never been on holiday to Spain.

Tapas are those free little appetisers you get with a beer... usually in a little brown bowl and very bloody nice they are as well

Very true Punty - but Tapas is the name of the dish it is served in, not the food. Ever been to Spain outside of Benidorm?

It is quite the rage now in WEstern Style Authentic Genuine 100% real traditions western style Thai restaurants to sell Thai Tapas. It is quite a nice idea giving you the chance to order 3-4 different dishes to taste and share if there is just the two of you without breaking the bank and throwing loads away.

Hmmm...you're getting a bit snotty there, so I think I'm justified in pointing out that the actual origin of the term 'tapas' is not the name of the dish.

It originates from a 'tapa' which was a hunk of bread placed over a drink to keep flies away.

well bugger me sideways, you are right. I was getting confused with paella

However, of course, you are wrong also. It refers to a lid. The hunk of bread might indeed be used as a lid, but so might a small plate, or dish, or another bowl of tapas, hence them all being the same size, shape and not able to fall into one another if stacked, but usable as lids... hence tapas.

Not that you were being snotty or anything, but if you are, quite rightly, going to correct someone, best get your version correct as well, sweetie.

    It was bread.

Obviously that would have been before Juan Inman types like you got on the scene with artfully positioned sardines and the like.

Hey Cy, at least "tapas" was the correct spelling? Or is the "s" an angicised plural that is redundant and incorrect?

If Tapas was names after a hunk of bread, might it not have been called el pans instead?

No, 'tapa' is singular and 'tapas' is plural, manny.

As for 'angicised', is that anything to do with the diagnosis of 'Acute Angina'?

'Yeah, great little titties too, eh doc?'

    typo.
    You remembered the joke...
Does the Spanish language do the "s" plural thingy?
Just asking as I don't know.

BTW...it's polite, and probably grammatically correct to use a capital for a proper noun.

You seem to be the expert on the subject, must be all those bottles of Cheers you drink

C'mon Sybil post up a thread of your own with pictures for the first time, it shouldn't be that difficult for an educated person such as yourself.

Stop day dreaming about spending your twilight years sat in a second hand bookshop watching the cobwebs.

    Where's Sybils thread???
