My mum, while far from being a man, and out of economy rather than bravado, would spread a thin smear of Vegemite on slices of bread (minus the crust), slice the slices into narrow "sticks" and put them in a very slow oven for an hour or so until they were completely dried out.
She called them "pretzels" though some will protest at the name. Crispy, salty, toasty, moorish snacks. And easy!
