If anybody misses a really strong cup of tea then I cannot recommend this new flavour from Twinings strongly enough.

I am not sure how widely Twinings is stocked in Thailand but i think it is quite an international brand.

It is hard to find a brew as strong as PG Tips outside the UK but this stuff is as good if not even better than the famous chimpanzee tea.

Twinings normally has a 5 leaf scale for strength but they added a 6th leaf for this brew.

Good to see Twining's are expanding their range again. They used to produce Yunnan tea years ago, that was really delicious but they stopped producing it. The only place I have found Yunnan tea in England since then is in a Polish supermarket! Pretty difficult to find it in Thailand too.

I'd like to try this blend and see how it compares... and PG Tips?? Seriously?? :P

They have Assam Bold in Foodmart Jomtien near me, shall nip down there tomorrow and buy a pack, although I am getting Tetley in 100 bag boxes for 150baht which is a damn good deal I reckon, seen the price of that yellow crap lipton? 70 odd baht for 25 bags

had to buy some in Bangkok as I never took enough tetleys with me, I was robbed at those prices

I buy Tea in bulk, by which I mean it's not pre packeged.
A nice full flavoured black leaf tea.
I find the key to strength is adding a couple of extra teaspoonsfull to the pot.
Hate that flavoured tea like earl grey and such.
(though the missus did mistakenly buy a quite pleasnt lichee flavoured tea once, not bad, but I've still got it if anyone wants it)

Assam & Kenyan are my teas of choice.

PGTips & Tetleys taste like klong water.

I don't drink tea so cannot comment on the thread.

But in old Soho there is a specialist shop for tea and coffee that must sell a strong tea.

Its in Old Compton Street. Same street as the Admiral Duncan which was blown up for being gay and Comptons (formerly the Swiss Tavern) which should have been blown up for ruining a good pub.

I suggest you try the interweb to make an order or failing that send a letter marked email to place an order.

They also do Kopi Luwak which is a marvellous example of how to make premium money from shit.

Tetley's is a blend of Assam & Kenyan teas...PG Tips is more Kenyan and Sri Lanka...

I love Assam Superb or Royal Blend when I can get it, but Tetley is the epitomy of an English morning cuppa IMO....

I can't see any comparison between Tetley and PG Tips. Tetleys is widely avilable in Aussie and their is even a 'Tetley extra strong' brew available but it doesn't come within a mile of the sharp taste of standard PG Tips. PG Tips is not commonly available in Aussie unfortunately which is why I am so happy to have found this stuff from Twinings.

Even doing the 2 teabag trick with the weaker teas available doesn't really work as it is the quality of the tea rather than the quantity that gives it that sharp edge.

Stop using teabags then, buy loose leaf tea and make a proper cup of tea in a teapot.

I have thought about going down the loose tea route but I actually thought it seemed a bit gay compared to teabags. Also not practical since I travel for work so I don't want to cart a teapot around with me.

Back to the OP, I have to report that my initial test was with a 10 pack. in the 10 pack the bags are sealed inside sachets. I have since gone back and bought a 100 box. These are loose in the box and I can't say that they have such an arresting taste as the 1st lot. Not sure if this can be down to the lack of sachet since the box was freshly opened. Maybe some quality control issues. I will buy another 10 pack and do a side by side taste test.

Even I thought it would be shabby to beg on behalf of another.
Her email is included in the post.

What I noticed was that the blends vary country by country.
So tea in India boiled in a pan with milk and sugar will be a different blend from Ireland where it stews all day in a kettle.

Coffee differs country by country but I never thought much about it. In America people buy Mexican Coca Cola and other soft drinks as they are made with sugar not corn syrup and taste "better."

I now have something else to try and test.
