    Vanilla Pods

I have always used vanilla extract for my baking, but the experts say to try and use vanilla pods if you can, because they taste a whole lot better.
Does anyone know if they are available in Thailand? I've looked around local markets, Big C, and Tesco but can't find any.
    Cheers.

I would think Villa Market should have it. Any time I watch those cooking how's, it's the same, they always use vanilla pods. Here's a listing of the locations and their phone numbers: Villa Market :: The original supermarket since 1974

I'll see what I can do.
In the meantime, a couple of cooking shows worth watching are; The Great British Bake Off, and Baking Made Easy. Both good shows with lots of ideas.

    Be gentle with vanilla pods.

I'm sure your TV shows have mentioned this but in case they haven't then use a small, sharp knife to split the pods open and gently scrape out the seeds and a bit of the pulp from the interior of the pod. They will be a lot more pungent than using extract if given time to release the oils.

You can keep the unused bits by closing the pod with a rubber band or something and refrigerating it.

There is some very interesting reading material and documentation available regarding the introduction and [struggling] propagation of vanilla orchids in Thailand.....almost always govt/royalty funded.

I understand there are private attempts throughout the country. It doesn't take here very well as one might think.
Vanilla is quite similar to coffee or tea, in the sense that it takes on the character of respected sub-climate and sub-soils.
