One Plate Thai Dishes/ Aharn Nung Jaan

Even though the average purveyor of Thai one plate dishes or aharn nung jaan would expect little more than 30 baht for a hearty serving of their invariably exceptionally tasty fare, it is still a prudent idea to become au fait with a recipe or two to add to the heavy artillery of your culinary front line. Cooking your signature dish of cheesy beans on toast can sometimes fail to stimulate even the most finely tuned palates, so with your new found gastronomic wisdom, potential dinner guests can now be wowed and if this doesn't stimulate their tastebuds ask them to stimulate your fucking underpants..

Pad Krapow Moo (Fried Pork with Holy Basil)

Ingredients from the left of the plate, clockwise:

    Chili - Prik
    Holy Basil - Krapow
    Garlic - Gratiam
    Chili Paste - Prik Gaeng
Mange Toute - Tua Lun Dtao
Long Green Beans - Tua Fuk Yao
    Egg (for garnish) -

*Type of salad/vegetable items used (mange toute and green beans) are at the cook's/diner's discretion.

    Minced Pork - Moo Sub
    Oyster Sauce - Numun Hoi
    Salt - Glua
    Pepper - Prik Thai

Fetch a robust wok and heat some vegetable oil before placing the garlic which was crushed with the flat edge of a meat cleaver and a couple of teaspoons of chili paste..

Wait for a couple of minutes before adding the rest of the vegetation (except the Holy Basil) to the wok and spend a few minutes being unncessarily noisy with your spatula (although this seems to be key)

Next, add the minced pork which has been previously seasoned with a pinch of salt, pepper and a conservative amount of the oyster sauce.

Finally, pour in a slightly more liberal helping of oyster sauce and when you feel the pork is pretty much cooked through, add the basil. Mix with vigour - the louder the better.

    Et voila..

Eat with rice and place a fried egg on top for extra vibrancy and flavour.

^ I've no idea. I've eaten a pad thai which has included that before but don't think it's essential. If i can remember it had a sort of nutty twang to it.
