Recommended family friendly or kids' movies

In the last few weeks, I've just acquired a DVD player (yeah, I know) & bought some movies for littl'un & I)

For him I bought the first Harry Potter movie, a Winnie-the-Pooh Hallowe'en movie, The Simpsons (OK, that was for me, too) which turned out (even after being returned & replaced) to be a dog movie called Snow Buddies - what d'you expect for 100bt? -, Kung Fu Panda, Stuart Little 3, Ant Bully, and the first Garfield Movie.
The far & away favourite for both of us is Kung Fu Panda - it's fantastic & the graphics are amazing, though we're both rather impressed with Ant Bully, too.

Does anyone have any favourites of their family they'd like to share?

Love the Wallace & Gromit movies, the Shrek movies & Jungle Book myself!

Thanks for all of the suggestions - I have a feeling things like Captain Scarlet & the Transformers would go down well.

Not seen Finding Nemo or Ice Age, but quite fancy them.

Don't know how old your kid is, but I loved Goonies when I was young (and actually still like it now). Don't know how easy it would be to find over here though. Good action/adventure movie about pirates and it hask a Cycndia Lauper soundtrack, which might be a plus/minus for you, not sure.

I'd second Princess Bride as you'd probably enjoy it just as much as the kids would.

I think that NR's going to be limited to what the local DVD seller might have, the princess brides a great film but I doubt it will be easy to find on DVD anywhere here. The newer and classic stuffs a better bet.

Saw Princess Bride in the theater on my birthday, way back when. Enjoyed it. Saw it again when I was about 20, couldn't believe all the jokes and everything that I'd missed as a kid. I think the first time I saw it I was fully bowled over by Andre the Giant (RIP) and all the swashbuckling. Since I've revisited it, I have come to appreciate the genius of Christopher Guest and the rest of the cast. I think the line that struck me was along the lines of, "May I live a thousand years, and never hunt again," or something like that. Good stuff. And the ROUS's scared the hell out of me when I was little. Nowadays, not so much.

July. I'll probably get him a few DVDs for Christmas, though.

    Spot on, unfortunately.
Wish my internet connection was up to letting me download stuff for myself. Bet there are some old episodes of the Banana Splits floating around cyberspace that I could download for him, if it was.

Some great suggestions there, thanks all.

^ Sean the sheep is class as is Wallace and Gromit- same maker, Nick Park from Bristol.
Got truckloads of dvd's from amazon posted to my dad in Bighty and forwarded on here. Best ones include Kipper the dog, Maisy's farm and Percy the park keeper also from my day got the herbs and the wombles for nostalgic reasons.

Good movies include chitty chitty bang bang, james and the giant peach, lady and the tramp, aristocats and the lion king (as previously mentioned)

You can get mainstream classic disneys here in LOS but amazon is best for old favourites.

    Best

    No one said Ratatouille??????????????

    Wonderful film.

Toy Story 2, still the best film of the genre in my opinion.

^ Got Ratatouille recently at big c and although it's not bad the dialogue is too quick- it's like the characters have all dosed up on amphetamin before the show, but that's probably because it's a cheap thai copy. Found that with a few movies bought here....bee movie too, almost incomprehensible.

At 100 baht per DVD rental it might be worth considering upgrading your Internet connection so you can download and burn unlimited movies for free?

Try any of the Pixar films. A Bug's Life, The Incredibles, Cars, Monsters Inc, and the Barbie cartoons are filled with good entertainment for girls and basic moral lessons. You MUST see The Princess Bride. Kids love Star Wars, too. Try some documentaries like BBC's Planet Earth--fascinating & breathtaking footage. I think with all these recommendations from everyone it's time to start shopping and/or downloading!
    Eat more Cheezy Poofs!

Some logic in that. My TOT's 700bt for a 1.5meg connection, if you download stuff early morning or later at night a 700mb Xvid or AVI takes anywhere between 3-5 hours.
Ive just whacked The Princess Bride in the download box, havent seen it for ages.
NR do you know if your DVD player can play XVIDS and AVI files ?

I would love to. Sadly, I still don't have the phone line & internet package I ordered from TOT 3 months ago when I moved into this place. I'm still using a borrowed mobile phone contraption which says it gives reaonable speeds (it says it's on 1.14MB at the moment & that's far slower than usual), but in reality isn't even fast enough to watch short Youtube vids.
