| The Family Room Want to know the best place to buy baby clothing or toys, are diapers available in Thaliand? What about the best hospitals, the pitfalls of hiring a nanny or helper. How to keep teenagers amused in Bangkok, can I hire a carseat when I travel? Which children's medications are available? |

![]() | Children, are you qualified? You need to pass a test to drive a car. You need to pass a test to ride a decent motorbike. You need to pass a test to handle a boat in many countries. You need to pass a test to teach. But to bring a new being into the world, a new human being, to rear it and look after it, efficiently and effectively you need nothing. Just the gynecological hardware and a provider. Shouldn't there be some kind of assessment as to your suitability for such an important job? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, there should. But there isn't. They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don't have any kids yourself. This Be The Verse - Philip Larkin

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I never planned to have any kids for the simple reason they would be half me and i wouldn't wish that on anyone, but saying that my daughter is perfectly normal, i think she somehow must have inherited a 100% of her mothers genes. |

| On a walkabout | When we were expecting our first child it was quite a worrying time for me personally as you never know how you will perform as a parent and father. When a child is born there is not an instanteous love as this love grows as you grow together and over time (well for the Dads anyway). I think, and with regard to one being a good or bad parent, the potential is imbedded deeply in your nature and character and not for all to immediately recognize. I have know (particularly) some woman who you would predict would make terrible mothers (in fact they would admit it themselves) but when the child is born a transformation takes place bordering on being a miracle. They turn from being rather selfish, career obsessed fanatics into the most wonderful and caring mothers you could ever imagine. Again, I believe you can only truly know how good a parent you will be and only after you become one. |

| Tonguin for a beer | I'm pretty hopless in a nice way. I went to read to ,y boy before he slept the other night and couldn't find anything that interested me so I read from an aircraft magazine I had, all about these sea plane fire fighting things. He loved it and pics to boot. I have always bought him gifts that he is way too young for. We wrestle in the room at bed time sometimes when I am pissed. We fight over the remote until the mrs has to split us up. That kind of thing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think I'm lucky; My son has been wonderful really easy to manage with few tantrums. When he was born I was working a solid 70+ hour week, I left that work to spend time with him and it worked wonders...as if now being to read his mind. I know when he's tired, hungry and wants to go somewhere; he's a true soulmate now. I will not have another because what I've heard is when you get a good managable kid the next one will be a foking nightmare Quote:

Sure kids have different personalities but anyone who says they have a naughty, unmanageable child because of genetics is lying. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I got the job when I married a woman who already had two. At first it was a bit rocky once in a while as we learned about each other, but now we are great. I'm just sorry that I have to work in another country for a couple of years. |
