This is a normal price all over the country...

I pay 8000 for a 4 bedroom with big garden in Bkk, for example (there are loads of nice houses for rent in my village between 5k and 10k; the 4 bedroom house opposite, no garden, is a good deal at 6-7k). Before that, I owned 2 condos in Jarunsanitwong which cost 300,000 baht each - knocked together, they made quite a nice living area. Sold them due to the environment - that's when paying more improves your quality of living!

These 10k+ per month for a tiny studio in central Bkk or pattaya are insanity. The condos in Pinklao are about 12k for a nice, but very small 1 bedroom unit. You could spend some time looking around the old villages which are scattered amongst the sois, and find a nice house for half the money... It is a pain in the arse searching them out, walking around in the sun, so have a coffee at Starbucks and send the missus out with a motorcyc, pen, paper and digital camera...
