Interested in jogging? Any fat bars stewards want to meet weekly for a short or long run? Nothing too strenuous mind. Horizontal joggers can stay on the strip.

Be careful out there bkkeddie. The perps are out to rob farlongs on cycles, walking and just out and about. Cell phones, cash, jewlery, cycles, etc. 2 punks on 2 cycles tried to railroad me and the wife into a car after attempting to pull the chain off my neck. They missed the chain and both the spouse and my reaction to block the chain grabbing attempt could have resulted in an accident. In fact, on Suk headed West from Tesco at the turn off onto the new bypass road just the other evening I was advised that a farlong on a cycle was knocked off his cycle by a Thai cycle rider who had a passanger and then took the farlongs belongings. Spectated by his mate and girlfriend on a 2nd cycle. I'm guessing there not mates anymore......

Hi I agree you have to be careful - I am sorry to hear about your incident - I have met a few farang that have been robbed in B Chang, two at gunpoint. I generally don't take any valuables when I jog and have used the public jogging track at the football stadium in the past - very safe. I agree you have to be careful! Dogs are my worse menace, I normally carry a couple of stones in my pocket for them. I think it also helps to jog on the right side so you can see traffic coming and bikes can't easily come up behind you + I would not normally jog at night. Too many drunks.
Right. at the footy stadium, in the day time whene there are other joggers and people around seems like it might be ok. I think maybe I would carry a 60cm long "Johnny Be Good" bamboo stick along with me rather than the stones though. Some of them dogs are big and it would't hurt to have if any of the natives get restless. The fastest I move is when I'm walking on the fareway so not sure I'd be good company for a run just for the sake of running. Especially if there is no one running after me! 555.
Ironic reading this, I've had 2 incidents around Ban Chang in the last few months in which alarms went off in my mind. Both involved 2 or more lowlife males on motorcycles getting too close in very light traffic for no apparent proper reason, the other, also 2 males on a motorcycle passed me while I was riding then slowed down and looked back to see where I was. Both happened in the dark area around the Sukhumvit/332 interchange. Be careful out there.
Both of these incidents made me glad I had a real motorcycle, even though it's a small one, that the scooters could not keep up with.
BobR, you got that right. At the time of the incidents, were you headed East or West at the point you described. You certainly do have to have "situational awareness" at all times. Good that you were able to recognize the potential results of the set up and take avoidance measures. Good on you! Lets hope the others will learn from this advisement.
Is this the Ban Chang near to Udon toward KK direction ?? has a new museum ? mabe im in the wrong place , but if its the place Im thinking about thats opened my eyes up
Wrong Ban Chang nigelandjan. Our Ban Chang is just just East of Sattahip on Sukhumvitt (route 3) and West of Rayong by about 15 kilo or so. The incidents are not at all unique to Ban Chang but a very popular set up during these economic depressed times everywhere in Thailand.
Great Idea I will try the Eastern Star. Only potential danger I can see is wolf whistling caddies.
While we are highlighting the activities of local highwaymen, I might mention a friend of mine got a motorbike taxi from the strip and the guy robbed him! He was very pissed mind. Beware taking a m/c taxi at night. Better off in a tuktuk.
Be aware of your surroundings and situation at all times. I've never had a problem with taxis in Banchang at any time of night or day, but I might be just lucky.
Banchang cops used to take a very dim view of crimes against foreigners in Banchang, but this might be changing for the worse. I would certainly report any robbery, even just attempted.
I run around Ban Chang, normally between 4 to 7 in the afternoon. I've never had any problems yet, but will be more aware now. I run a very similar route each time too which would make it easy for someone to plan to rob me. Then again they can probably see I only have an i-pod with me and nothing else so might leave me alone.
I own a house by Payoon Beach and have driven my motorbike on the Payoon Beach road to Ban Chang many times with no trouble....I wish someone would try something I'd like to punch out one of those piss ant Thai punks....of course I'm 6'5" and athletic... bring them on....
I'll jog from Eastern Star to blow row.
That's all.
