Goodbye Quinny

Very saddened yesterday to hear about the sudden passing away of Quinny (Chris Quinn), the popular manager of the Camel Bar on the famous "Strip" in Banchang.

I'm not so good at eulogies, but just to say that Quinny was a real character; passionate about food, football, and life in general. Top bloke and Geordie with a great sense of humour (pre-requisite for NUFC fans), and a bloody good mate as well.

He will be sadly missed by many friends, and patrons of the above bar and restaurant.

Funeral arrangements to be announced.

Like everyone who knew Chris,here on Tyneside,in Thailand ...and around the world...absolutely shocked and saddened at this news.
Spoke to his brothers yesterday and all devastated at his early demise.
Everyone here mourning the passing away of one of lifes great charachters!
His brother Peter would like the thank all in at your end for organising things(Jimmy/Johnny Bracken, Terry etc).
Anyone who came into contact with Chris couldnt help but love the guy,his wit, quirky comments, humour and...cheek!!He had a heart of gold.
I knew Chris for almost 50 years and the happy memories and escapades will remain forever...too numerous and "mad" to put on here...he even came on my honeymoon with me in 1978!!
A few glasses were raised to Chris yesterday and as the goals went in against Arsenal...a few shouts of.."that ones for Quinny"!!
A lot of tears...but most important....a lot of smiles and laughs remembering one of lifes "one offs"Rest assured...anyone who knew Chris could never forget him!

Announcement regarding Quinny's funeral arrangements from Terry (Camel Pub owner).

Folks,

There will a service at the Camillian Christian Centre Friday 11th (today) at 11.00 which will take about an hour.


This will be followed at 14.00 by the Cremation service at Wat Chak Look Yak which is approx 200mtrs after the Camillian Centre on the same side of the road.

There will be a buffet served at The Camel afterwards.

Ronnie Coulson cooks up “Golf du Jour” The recipe for a successful golf tournament is no secret to Ron Coulson, owner of Camel Pub and Restaurant in Ban Chang. He took one great idea, 65 golfers, one golf course designed by Nick Faldo, ten pinches of prizes and cooked up the "Golf du Jour".
The great idea was a golf tournament to benefit the Ban Chang Wat School Children’s Christmas Fund, the golfers came from Ban Chang, Pattaya and Bangkok; the golf course was Century, Ban Chang, the format was a four person team scramble, and the prizes came from all over with a cash and food and beverage flavor. Ron cooked all of this up and served it with a gigantic pig roast to please everyone’s palate.

Quinny's send-off was very well attended, and a big cheers to everyone that made the funeral and bash at the Camel afterwards.

I was at the temple yesterday and was so pleased for Quinny's family that there was such a large attendance. I don't post on here much, but, I wanted to add my own tribute.

I have known Quinny only since he took over as manager of The Camel. Even though I only visited a couple of times a week, and only late morning or early afternoon, Quinny always greeted me like a long lost friend. Cheerful, full of funny stories, and anecdotes. He always astounded me with his knowledge of football, and music. I had recently started going to the quiz nights at the Camel, and thoroughly enjoyed them, more so because Quinny injected humour into the whole proceedings.

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with quite a serious illness, for which I am undergoing treatment, and will eventually undergo major surgery. Not a visit to the Camel passed without Quinny asking "How is it going, lad?" When we talked about it, he always left me feeling positive about my future, and I left feeling cheerier than when I had arrived. He genuinely cared, and that is what made him so special. I will miss him greatly. I have shed a few tears over this.

May the lord take care of you Quinny.
